has her photos (site might be overloaded for some, though). Born in Russia, but moved to Toronto at a young age, so the Russians can claim part of the win. :) |
Oh nooo, a twink named brisk is having sour grapes because CANADA WINS AGAIN!!
boo hoo for you buddy. :D |

I'm not sure. :D |

It's a beauty pageant, whoop-de-do. But a lady from Canada won. Let us enjoy the little thrill and for people like Brisk -- why bother? Go debate something important. I'm sure there's a thread on GFY somewhere that will care about such trivial points. |

By the way, I have no problem with a Canadian winning anything. The difference between you and me is that I congratulate the person who won, whereas you are desperate to somehow take credit for her win because you happen to be a citizen of the same country as her. You're desperate to promote this as a win for Canada instead of simply a win for her. It makes you look really pathetic. |

This thread is now official.... it has been woj'd.
And...... CANADA WINS!!!!!!!!!!! |

Go here if you want argue something important: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=474363 :helpme |
Oh brisk, you're suck a little twink. :D
And now you're a big crybaby. Everyone, look at the big baby crying while we celebrate. YAY FOR CANADA!!! |
Every girl in the competition every year has her country's name in huge bold letters on her sash, and each girl is called and titled by her country's name. When she wins, she is called "miss ____________" (her country's name)....... yet brisk can't seem to grasp why the people of the winning girl's nation would be happy for their country as well as for the girl.
What an idiot. |

By the way, for all you know, I am Canadian. Also, for all you know, I might be a woman, so being called a twink wouldn't mean much. You're pathetic. |
Some people will literally argue about anything.
That is what is pathetic. MISS CANADA ROCKS!!!!! |
Quote:
You're so desperate to make yourself look important by promoting the accomplishments of other people who happen to be citizens of the same country as you, it's pathetic. |

Yes, and why does the whole city go bananas when they win the Stanely cup?
Like any country in the world whose team wins the world cup doesn't go insane over it. Nope, no more of that. According to this Brisk idiot they can only be happy for the individual players, not their country. Brisk, you're being a bonehead. |
w00t go Canada, i voted for her online!
|
It's the same reason folks cheer for the NY Yankees if they live in NYC, or the Brazilian soccer team in the World Cup, if they're Brazilian, etc.
It's actually very ingenious marketing by sports teams, or other events that gain an instant "loyalty" due to geography and civic/national pride. Fans might not find it as compelling if it was the Microsoft Yankees playing the General Electric Dodgers in the World Series. Noam Chomsky had some interesting ideas about spectator sports, how they divert attention, and dull people's minds: http://www.anakata.hack.se/files/consent.html Although, I think he's too extreme.... In the old days, nations would fight wars --- now, they fight beauty pageants, to see who is best! :1orglaugh |
Ever watch the Olympics Brisk? When they put up the medal standings, they are ranked by COUNTRY.
When any athlete is interviewed they invariably say the same thing every time... that they were proud to represent their COUNTRY. The girls in the miss universe pageant are no different. Your argument is flawed, and quite childish, and rather stupid. And it's over. CONGRATS TO MISS CANADA. MAY SHE COME POST HERE SOON!!! :D |
In that Chomsky link above, there was one part BRISK might like:
You know, I remember in high school, already I was pretty old. I suddenly asked myself at one point, why do I care if my high school team wins the football game? [laugbter] I mean, I don't know anybody on the team, you know? [audience roars] I mean, they have nothing to do with me, I mean, why I am cheering for my team? It doesn't mean any -- it doesn't make sense. But the point is, it does make sense: it's a way of building up irrational attitudes of submission to authority, and group cohesion behind leadership elements -- in fact, it's training in irrational jingoism. That's also a feature of competitive sports. I think if you look closely at these things, I think, typically, they do have functions, and that's why energy is devoted to supporting them and creating a basis for them and advertisers are willing to pay for them and so on. |
Quote:
You think she and the other contestants arrived to the finals, all alone, with no help, training, support, etc .... I knew you were stuborn, but I had taken that for misplaced patriotism .... Now I know it is just plain and pure idiocy. |
Quote:
Human behaviour is not always rational, and this is a good example. Celebrating other people's win as your own is rather pathetic. |
[QUOTE=BRISK But last time I checked, Miss Universe wasn't a team effort. [/QUOTE]
Tell that to her hair stylist, walking coach, designer, makeup artist ... :pimp Oh never mind ... |
