Parenting 101 <-- The REAL issue

I had NO IDEA that the interweb was invented for children. Apparently someone thinks that it was.

Instead of spending disgusting amounts of tax dollars passing around laws that prohibit legal & consenting (and sometimes disturbingly kinky) adults from expressing their sexuality, why not spend a couple of bucks and make up 280,000,000 pamphlets on Parenting & watching your kids and what they do?

Nahhhhh... that would be too simple of a solution, yet it would rid the world of the "so called" REAL problem. Fuck YOU!

You are on the right track. I believe we think alike.

I'm not sure pamplets is the right answer, unless you could out all the child predators and choke them to death with the pamplets.

There is quite a bit of validity to this...

But there are issues that I disagree with. The original laws were introduced to attempt to keep the underaged away from the entire subject whether it be viewing it, or even worse, playing a role.

I personally think that the US gov't knows deep down inside that they will never control adult "pornography". It's always been here since man could create a hieroglyphic on the broad side of a cave wall. Even the bible thumpers know it, so I do not really think it's an issue of controlling the net.

They could tax emails, and have more control of the web in 5 minutes than laying the 2257 Smackdown onto the table. In fact, this is kind of reminding me of prohibition, which if I'm right, is a good thing... It won't hang around too long (hopefully).

Things will change... and you can take that to the bank

PS> Why call people idiots?

I dont know what your political affiliation is, but that is actually a big conservative point.

Conservatives believe in consequences for your actions both good and bad. They believe in taking responsiblity for yourself and your kids.

Obviously it wasn't my idea to put in all the 2257 regulations, but I understand the issue and the intent behind the legislation although I may not agree with all of it.

As a new parent, I am all for limiting the access of child predators to child porn. I just think that the adult business as it pertains to the internet is not something easily understood by politicians and doesn't have much precedence for them to follow.

Other than some of the wacko church groups, no conservative has set out to shut down the online adult industry, they just want to limit the availability of it to children.

As you said, that should really start at home. I agree 100% and I think thats probably one of the best things said about the issue all week.

By the way, most times people incorrectly lump conservatives in with religious fundamentalists. That we be the equivalent of labeling all democrats as vegetarians.

I think it was george carlin that said,

"If you took all the pornography off of the internet, there would only be one website left and it would be called, "Bring Back The Porn"!

I started a very simple rule in my house a couple weeks ago... That there will be no respect of privacy until you're 18 I check every now and then to see what the heck he's doing online but I ALSO walk into his room without knocking now. He totally hates me but it works!

I've been checking my son's online habits since then and there's been no porn surfing...

Yeah sure thatll work. You are only training your kid to lie and be stealthy..to keep things hidden from you. Dont know how old he is.

You cant stop his urges if you think you can you are in for a big surprise sooner or later.

Perhaps moving the computer in the family area?Kids need privacy and barging in on them without knocking will invade their space and will become more rebellious

They USED to think this. If you look at how they have been for the last several years it's quite the opposite. 2257, COPA other crap. How is that PARENTS taking responsibility? That's telling me repubs think "You are dumb motherfuckers so we will "help" you protect your kids form evil TV, evil movies, evil video games, evil music, porn and Janet Jackson tits".

Then you haven't been paying attention they are many conservatives that want to ban porn. Look at Ashcroft. He wanted porn GONE. trust me if he could have snapped his fingers and banned porn forver he would have.

It's because the religous right has taken over the conservative movement and the republican party. That's why I left. If there are republicans that feel the religious right is not what their party should be about then they should tell them to shut the fuck up or have the balls to LEAVE the republican party and join the Libertarian party or become an independent. Fact is if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem so non-right wing repubs who do nothing are no different the right wing nuts jobs they supposedly abhor.

parenting has become a fucking joke anymore.
everything is a "babysitter"......either its a 12 yr old from down the street, or its the TV & computer, whatever it takes so that the parents have "their" time to relax, talk on the phone, lay in the sun getting a tan, or taking an afternoon nap.

I respect you stance, but I have a few questions that might help us see both sides of the issue.

Do you think it is ok for a woman to be nude during the superbowl? Why Not?
It was obviously a publicity stunt, - What is next? If in fact, you dont think that is appropriate, what sort of deterence would you put in place if you were in charge?

Sure, we can say that its the parents responsibility, but the act kind of forced the issue. If a parent didn't want their child exposed to that type of stuff, well tuff fucking luck. Janet Jackson felt her new album was more important than how they want to raise their kids and there was nothing in the world they could have done about.

Keep in mind this is just one example and one tit flash shouldnt hurt a childs natural development, but whats next? and whats after that? Can you imagine how much publicity you would get if you broadcasted a gang rape video as a publicity stunt.

Would you want your 15-year-old daugther's boyfriend to be an expert on the concept of "fisting" because some company decided they could absorb the fine and make more money by promoting their product in a publicity stunt? You can parent her all you want, but chances are you are not going to sit down with her and have the "fisting" conversation before 15.

I can teach my son that his actions have consequences and that he should respect other people, but I dont want him learning the fun of the gang rape and bukkake until he is mature enough to understand that those actions might have negative consequences.

I"m not finished, I'll post more for the rest of your post, but I encourage to answer seriously. I've taken the time to be respectful.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with a bare breast. There is no reason to be ashamed of it and no reason to hide them out of view. Other people find all the ED commercials, the violence abhorrent.

I feel bad for the kids of anyone who raises their children to be embarrassed and ashamed of a breast.

You have to be joking? You are associating a bare breast during a football game with the rampant airing of gang rape videos on public airwaves?

another completely stupid example. Showing of a breast during a live event will obviously lead to fisting being brought into the mainstream taped broadcasts or other live events.

I would hope you would teach him all that. I find it incredibly funny that you envision bukkake, gang rape, and fisting being aired on public airwaves during family viewing hours.

God, please go back and read what you wrote and see how utterly paranoid and whacked out it is.
