Then you'll need to learn there's a difference between standing up for yourself and out-and-out running your cock hole at someone. I wasn't attacking you whatsoever in my post...... I said "READ" and mistakenly corrected you.... big deal.

Tell me, when a waiter accidentally spills water in your lap do you pull out a gun and shoot him? :1orglaugh

you handle things different than I do.... if you want to keep ranting and raving over it, more power to ya. I've got bigger fish to fry. :thumbsup

I think that's bullshit.
Country has evolved just like every other type of music.

That's like saying it's not really rock because it doesn't sound like ACDC or it's not really top40/pop because it doesn't sound like Duran Duran or it's not really rap because it doesn't sound like Kool Moe Dee.

It's country, and that's just the way it is.

Carrie Underwood is pop country, period. If there ever was such a genre, she's it. I watched the whole season of this AI and I'm even pretty sure one or possibly all 3 of the judges used that term several times where she is concerned. Plus she sang many songs during the course of the competition that were pop hits, not country,

My only question is.... is it pop-country or country-pop? :D

most music today is a derivative of what it originally was - it all becomes pop music in the end which all sounds pretty damn similar.

Is there really that much of a difference between Faith Hill and Avril Lavigne? Not to me. It's all the same sugar-coated shit, written by some professional songsmith in LA who shops the same stupid song to the country, R&B, lite-rock & pop artists.

There are a few artists who push the boundaries, defy all labels and usually are music of a sub-culture - they can't have the same type of mass-appeal because they go out of their way to not pander to commercial interests. Bands like TOOL and Mars Volta come to mind. I admire great artists and songwriters more then technically proficient vocalists.

If the lowest common denominator appeals to you, then more power to you, it's all just a matter of taste. But, to me, today's Carrie is yesterday's Kelly Clarkson.

Fine, you're entitled to your opinion, I just take exception to you calling her a safe pop singer "like all the other winners"

And you also said "they" chose her.....but remember, people called in and voted and the winner was based on that vote count.
More people liked her than liked Bo.....but Bo came in 2nd, which is no small accomplishment.

She did sing several non-country songs during this year's competition but that's part of the American Idol standard. All contestants are challenged/expected to try something different than their typical musical preference. I specifially remember her singing songs by Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, etc. Neither of them have crossed over to the pop side of music. She does have the technical ability to cross over should she choose but I still stand by what I said before, she actually loves country music and can sing it well.

She did say that several times throughout, and I'm not disagreeing with you on that. In fact, even a few of the obviously "pop" songs she did sing she put a slightly country-ish twang to them. I'm more basing my opinion on the few times she sang her own original songs. Last night was one such time, and it sounds as much pop as it did country, at least to me.

She's definitely no Tammy Wynette. :1orglaugh

you're absolutely right, America chose her, but someone else (I think KRL) made the point that the people that actually call in are more likely not to vote for the long-haired "rocker".

Like I said, I saw the show twice this season, but I didn't take it seriously enough to actually call and vote. So I guess that takes away my right to bitch about what I feel is a dumb choice.

But it's just funny to me when country fans defend a lot of these artists who are so obviously pop music. I listen to a wide variety of music and a lot of times I'll hear an r&b artist, a pop artist and a country artist all singing the same fucking song, but one with a "country" arrangement, one with the r&b arrangement and one with a pop arrangement. And they were all written by the same top 40 songwriter in Los Angeles. But yea, it's not pop music. :winkwink:

I'm not so sure that last night's "original" song was hers. I believe it was written for both her and Bo to sing during their last night of competition. Whoever won would release it as their first single.

Tammy Wynette, no way. But, she's still a country girl at heart.

Well enough people voted for him to make it through every round but the last one. I have a feeling the final vote was close too.

Heck yes, it was close. I believe they said that less than 2% of the votes separated the two. They're both winners as far as I'm concerned. Of course, I'm a country fan so I'm happy that Carrie is the new American Idol. Then again, I was voting for Scott Savol too....and he's far from country.

Hey man don't let the good teeth fool you, she's a country bumpkin.

In her part of Oklahoma I'm pretty sure sleeping with your cousins is required by a city ordinance.

I think I know, but we should do a test to make sure. Start any thread about country music and then sit back and watch. I guarantee you the conversation will get around to inbreeding by page two every time. :winkwink:
