Country has evolved just like every other type of music. That's like saying it's not really rock because it doesn't sound like ACDC or it's not really top40/pop because it doesn't sound like Duran Duran or it's not really rap because it doesn't sound like Kool Moe Dee. It's country, and that's just the way it is. |

Carrie Underwood is pop country, period. If there ever was such a genre, she's it. I watched the whole season of this AI and I'm even pretty sure one or possibly all 3 of the judges used that term several times where she is concerned. Plus she sang many songs during the course of the competition that were pop hits, not country,
My only question is.... is it pop-country or country-pop? :D |

Is there really that much of a difference between Faith Hill and Avril Lavigne? Not to me. It's all the same sugar-coated shit, written by some professional songsmith in LA who shops the same stupid song to the country, R&B, lite-rock & pop artists. There are a few artists who push the boundaries, defy all labels and usually are music of a sub-culture - they can't have the same type of mass-appeal because they go out of their way to not pander to commercial interests. Bands like TOOL and Mars Volta come to mind. I admire great artists and songwriters more then technically proficient vocalists. If the lowest common denominator appeals to you, then more power to you, it's all just a matter of taste. But, to me, today's Carrie is yesterday's Kelly Clarkson. |

And you also said "they" chose her.....but remember, people called in and voted and the winner was based on that vote count. More people liked her than liked Bo.....but Bo came in 2nd, which is no small accomplishment. |

She's definitely no Tammy Wynette. :1orglaugh |

Like I said, I saw the show twice this season, but I didn't take it seriously enough to actually call and vote. So I guess that takes away my right to bitch about what I feel is a dumb choice. But it's just funny to me when country fans defend a lot of these artists who are so obviously pop music. I listen to a wide variety of music and a lot of times I'll hear an r&b artist, a pop artist and a country artist all singing the same fucking song, but one with a "country" arrangement, one with the r&b arrangement and one with a pop arrangement. And they were all written by the same top 40 songwriter in Los Angeles. But yea, it's not pop music. :winkwink: |

Tammy Wynette, no way. But, she's still a country girl at heart. |

In her part of Oklahoma I'm pretty sure sleeping with your cousins is required by a city ordinance. |
