    The importance of branding is lost on a good many people

    and I see that as a good thing.

    because it doesn't matter who you are.... you do not escape effective branding. It's in your face 24/7/365...... the fact that very few can grab ahold of the reins and command it, is as it should be.

    Some do.
    Others are done to.

                      Quite possibly the smartest thing I've read on gfy in a long time.
                      SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

                                              billboards
                                              internet
                                              your mail


                                              big companies like HP, MS, CocaCola, Pepsi, Ebay, Google....
                                              smaller companies like Silvercash, Adult.com, Jason & Alex,..... myself even....


                                              you recognize that shit.

                                              now think about all the ones you don't recognize. And consequently, don't really care much about. Why? Because their brand sucks, or is nonexistent. Would you buy a no-name LCD monitor or a Sony? Would you buy a Dodge or some experimental shit out of some guys garage? Do you watch CBS or public access? StudioCash versus CeCash?


                                              (those are all just examples... there are many more equally good examples)

                                              branding isn't just important..... it's everything.

                                                              The personal care products industry would crash without branding. Most of that stuff is fungible. Also, luxury goods are all based on branding. Prada bags are just that... bags. But put on the Prada label and people will fork over an extra $1K to $2K at least.

                                                                      exactly..... when you're talking about design style recognition, most of us can name each others work. We all have a distinctive style.... even if we deviate from it once in a while, it's still there. But that's within the business.... surfers are oblivious to it.

                                                                          the big guys like Coca Cola , Mc Donalds , Burger King are at this point in time in a league of their own , to us it is not of big importance how they brand their products

                                                                          smaller brands like porn sites require different techniques , so its very important to look at the smaller brands and how they do their branding without big resources


                                                                          branding for porn sites = very technical , less fire power

                                                                                  agreed... but not only look at them and adopt whatever is necessary, but also to have an additional and different edge.... even if small.
                                                                                  Competition is fierce..... and you need to be more fierce.

                                                                                                      hmm don't fully agree with that after reading "the end of marketing" by ayacola (mexican dude)... coca cola actually managed to sell 50% more colored water with few of his techniques.. coca cola and the rest of the bunch mention above is working hard to sell and selling is the only thing they care about..

                                                                                                      a well known brand isn't really a point if the shit doesn't produce profits.. coca cola has produces tons of good commercials/strategies that people really loved and remembered their products by, but that didn't mean that people would by more soda, so they cut them right off and started to work on other ideas... (for instace, they fucked up big in india and the eastern part of europe.. people loved their shit, but couldn't afford to buy it)

He got lots of attention but the response he has shown when asked for a glimpse at his portfolio would deter even the most eager of potential client.
