Were the 1980's 'that' bad?

When I look back I see low prices, lotsa time for dancin' and adventure. Cleaner air and better tastin' food.

Outside of the leftover disco stuff, the 80's weren't 'that' bad a decade. It was the turning point I'd say from the old ways to the new ways.

Fashion-wise I can stand strong. Wore my mc jacket, t-shirt, jeans and sneaks or cowboy boots. Always a fashionable approach so I ain't gotta burn any pictures...

Hey, who is that skinny guy with the broad shoulders and full head of shoulder length hair in them 80's pics on my..

D'OH!

Was Huey Lewis that bad? Were Izod shirts and feathered hair on men that bad? Were jackets with 150 zippers that bad? Was it really hip to be square?

I graduated HS in 1984 and I feel robbed. The 80's was the lamest decade EVER for music and style. Total shit.

Whiney boys!!! If you thought the 80's were bad, remember, in the '70's we had....drumroll...

DISCO !!!

Nothing, anywhere was worse than the disco scene. Nothing! I would rather sit through a mega marathon of Punjab movie theme music than an hour of the Bee Gees.

I'll give you that the style sucked in the 80s, and the movies were in general a lot worse than the 70s.
Sure, there were crappy hair bands like Poison and nancy boys like George Michael all over MTV.
But if you were in the punk-alt-indie-metal scene, the music was to die for, and so much better than the 15 years since the 80s ended.
Dead Kennedys, Husker Du, Minutemen, Black Flag, Violent Femmes, Replacements, Meat Puppets, Misfits, Cure, Gang of 4, Bad Brains, Dinosaur Jr., Mission of Burma, Mudhoney, early Sonic Youth and early Pixies, Plus lots of great metal: early Metallica, Megadeth &c. And the best rap ever made: NWA's Straight out of Compton and the early Public Enemy
Early U2, mid-career Ramones, Elvis C, Damned, Talking Heads, Jam & I'm tired of this list.
The only way the music of the 80s sucked is if you sat around watching MTV.

I can't believe my ears?

The 80's were the most underappreciated years in modern history. The music is awesome, TV was awesome, movies were awesome.....whats better than a good old fasion 80's party these days?

Bring back the 80s!!!!

Grew up in the 80's. Graduated highschool in '92.

I loved the 80's. First few ears of the 90's were dull. Shit most of the 90's was pretty fucking dull for culture and style.

Grunge music was hot tho.

But the 80's, seriously, was unique and fun. It will stand out in history classes of the future like the 1920's do today.

not a chance. unless you lived in London or LA they sucked. Evangelical xtianity on the rise, girls weren't giving it up, popular music sucked hairy sweaty asshole, fashion was ridiculous. Worst decade of the century. Well, maybe the 30's were worse, but the 80's are right up there for sheer shittyness.

The Cure, Smiths, Echo, Madchster scene... second half of eighties was great, even in US with Pixies, Sonic Youth, Husker Du. If you take off Jacko, G'N'R and all the glam metal and the mullets, it was really nice

Those who hate the 80s didn't see the late 70s

a sad sad substitute for early Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy and Nazareth.

Led Zeppelin for adolescent girls.

Stripper music.

In other words, the only reason GnR was ever considered that good was because everybody else sucked soooo bad, they're also-rans in the late 60's, early 70's when musical giants truly roamed the earth.

Incidentally, the Crue's first album 'Too Fast For Love' was pretty fucking cool.

I think the 80's rocked. I gues it depends what you were in to then.
30 yrs, 1975 to 2005, its all been about the Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll.
I wonder what the next 30 yrs holds in store.

Appetite for Destruction annihilates anything Aerosmith ever made. Thin Lizzy, Nazareth, are you joking?

FUCKIN' AAAAAAAA!!!!!!

The hardcore kick ass punk and thrash and gangsta rap decade! NY City skatin' and kung fuin'!

In the 80's even if you were broke you could still have adventure. If you had $20 you could have a ball in Manhattan. Eat all day and hang out all night.

80's was the 'Indies' decade for sure! Indie comics, indie bands, precursor to the '90's web indie startups.

Worst thing was the crack and drugs. NY was a nightmare.

Don't forget movies too! Terminator, Indiana Jones, Aliens, Predator!

Wrestlemania 1 !!!

You could still settle things man to man in the streets without 50 lawyers showin' up.

Women started turning 'evil'. Drugs like crack and those pharmaceutical nightmare dopes.

Nowadays the cool thing about the naughts ( 00's ) is the same as the mid to late '90s in that if you have skills and are on the web you can make some extra loot easy to offset the evil land barons.

In the 80's the only people who had loot were Republicans and gangsters.

Women's fashions today suck except for the business woman/professional. Today women dress like they're out to fight Dr. Doom or something.
