    Anyone Have Or Had This Windows Media Problem??

    WTF everytime i watch a .wmv and some .mpg videos my fucking windows media turns black and the picture goes away but the audio is still working....fucking so irritating

    sometimes it does that to me but I just double click the video then double click again

        fuck its irritating...i sometimes want to throw my computer...

        so I just go to its updates and so forth? iv tried it and I have no idea which codec update i need

          YARGH! There be a all of 'em codec download. Have divx, and xvid? Those two be most common.

                Chio, that would be something if the WMV files had a bad codec but I wouldn't put anything by Microsoft. For the MPEGs, you most likely need XviD, as the standard MPEG1-2 codecs are already installed by default.

                You should pick up a good codec pack, I use K-Lite Codec Pack but you can get another one from http://www.doom9.org

                This could be hardware related as well..

                edit: Winamp is absolutely horrible for video files, use as last resort only. Also, windows media player 10 has been out for a whlie, consider downloading it

                    Streaming or downloaded?

                    I've seen this problem with streaming video, but never downloaded vid.

                    If you're watching a streaming mediaplayer 9, and you're getting black screen, you probably have a firewall up that shouldn't be up - either too high or redundant (which can also be a bad thing).

                    If no firewall, check your privacy settings in IE - any higher than medium blocks a live stream - video, that is, it won't touch your audio.
