So this isn't so much help for webmasters who will still need hardcopies of licenses and such of models, as it seems how it is going to be?

Never Fails! Unless you don't ask a programer

Ok - Got to love life.
No sooner do I post the links to the site and images than our tech in Sydney decides to update the server database and shuts down the internet connection so he can make the updates.

He tells me the images should be back online in a few hours when the server updates are complete.

My error - thought he had done this earlier today - 19 hour time difference and I screwed up. I Should of held this post till Thursday AM.

We will have a complete website on the software online soon. We needed to make a few changes to the software to comply with the signed version of the 18USC2257 rules. These changes are being updated this evening.

Seems to me that somebody saw me posting about my solution in another thread and jumped the gun to get themselves out in front of the pack.

Poor business decision.

We filed the patent application in 2002.
I am SURE this was long before you thought of anything to meet the regulations

Didn't Aaron already mention that he didn't plan to sell his program to end-user webmasters?

How is this even a competing product?

Software rolling out

We have the software rolling out next week
We have are just waiting for the promtional materials to come back from the Advertising Agencey and for Greg Piccionelli ESQ to review the latest release and give us the go ahead to launch the site.

The new rules went into effect a few weeks before we expected them to and we have had to move up our time line. This product has been in development since 2002 and is a full SQL based database product.

We run it on 4 Windows XP work stations here that write to a Compaq Gl380 RAID 5 server runing Windows 2003. The in house server then archives at 1AM to a remote server located at a colocation facility. This way we have back ups of all data on and off site. Should we lose a server to failure or the Feds we can instantly back up for archives and continue business.

A lot of time and development has gone into this system. This is not a hack running on PHP with mySQL. This is a true SQL server application.

Greg Piccionelli ESQ (http://www.gregpiccionelli.com) has worked very closely with us on it's development.

I will post more contact info in the AM - waiting for MCI to connect our new toll free number and for the server updates to happen tonight to assure the emails go through properly.

Likee I stated this release was pushed forward by two weeks because of actions taken on Tuesday by the DOJ.

Well, you would be wrong in thinking that.

Besides, an application for a patent is not the same as a patent.

That being said...I started designing a system for my own needs and then decided to offer it to others as a secondary thought. If your product is better, which it very well may be, and if you are able to secure a patent on it...Then I would happily congratulate you and wish you the best of luck...Hell, I may even help you promote it.

I honestly don't care about this sort of competition....The bottom line is that our industry needs something like this and I for one think that it's great that some of us are trying to find solutions.

I didn't do it for the money. In fact, one of the options that I am considering is giving it away as a free service and supporting the costs by selling ad space on the site.

We got involved because we could see the handwritting on the wall after the 200 election. Started this project to basically help a client out and it grew from their. We have a number of neew technoligies developed into the system and it really tookk on an identity of its own.

I agree Aaron SOMETHING has to be done!
We believe we have a system that will benifit many individuals, companies and producers. Is our system right for everyone? Of course not - what is.

We can't afford to give it away.
Patents are not CHEAP and require a TON of time and documentation.
We have worked with Greg on this and he is one of the top Attorneys in the industry - again he does not come CHEAP!

A solution is need and your advice today has been dead on.
I really appreciate seeing someone step forward with upfront answer and take the heat for being honest. Your service this past few days has been accurate, well intended and properly spoken.

I have NO desire to squabble with you over this - we both have different answers for the same problem - 18USC2257.
I am sure BOTH solutions will aid many webmasters and producers.

Thank you for you input and yes you did push me to make the release a bit earlier than I wanted to. Not trying to step on toes - just share information.

LOL...Understandable. shit happens.

As for the squabble thing...That's not my intention either. Had I known previously that you were working on this project, I would have contacted you to offer my input and assistance if it was wanted.

Thank you for the kind words.

Okay, standard question: How does this handle the requirement for the records to be at the place of business? I saw clearly in the DOJ comments that networked or centralized record keeping is permitted.

Will Gregory A. Piccionelli, Esq. give a written opinion that this system is fully in compliance with 2257?

Finally, will this system be able to deal with other data sources and othere systems? It appears there are about a dozen "2257" systems out there, and every one of them so far seems to be exactly against what the DOJ said... so please help me out here!

Input Greatly Apprecitaed!

I Never claimed to be the brightest stone on the river bed.

I will keep you informed of the progress and would respect any input you could add. You have ALWAYS been very upfront and honest in your remarks on the boards. I have been reading your post for the past few months and though I may not always agree with your opinion I can not fault your stance.

We are in an industry of egos and humour. Please feel free to give us your honest feedback on what we are offering.

Thank you again

We are working with Greg.
Not sure about an indorsement - might be considered a conflict of interest.
You surely can call him on it and get his opinion. He has spent MANY hours reviewing the system and working on the patent applications for us.

We can work with any ODBC complaint database as far as inporting and exporting data. This is a TRUE SQL database - NOT mySQL.
Remember the database is just our information store... we can plug it into any database that exposes as an ODBC interface...so Oracle, MSDE, etc...

Our techs are updating the database right now with changes needed to meet the final signed copy of 18USC2257. The screen capture should be back shortly

Screen Captures posted

We have posted the screen captures on another server for now.
We expect the my2257 server to be complete with database changes in about 6 hours.

Had to stop the webserver while the database was recompiling for security reasons.

Here are the screen captures
