Dig and I rarely agree it seems, but this time we do for sure.

80's fashion was ATROCIOUS

But i love 80's music, so much good music such as Belinda Carlisle, Bananarama, early Madonna's music, I admit I even liked Debbie Gibson. I grew up watching mtv back in the 80's and I love it. The clothes were horrendous though, the blue eyeshadow extremely ugly, and the frizzy mail hair were absolutely horrendous.

Led Zeppelin for adolescent girls.

Stripper music.

In other words, the only reason GnR was ever considered that good was because everybody else sucked soooo bad, they're also-rans in the late 60's, early 70's when musical giants truly roamed the earth.

Incidentally, the Crue's first album 'Too Fast For Love' was pretty fucking cool.

In your opinion.

Appetite for Self Destruction is one of the best rock albums of all time. Everybody has their place in history and you and your opinion certainly can't take that away from GnR.

Led Zeppelin sucked ass IMO - Nazareth too soft and Thin Lizzy was alright.

Why make any comparisons at all? Each had their own thing going, it's a matter of taste and opinion.

For people in thier 30's-50's perhaps you are correct, but being in my teens then, it was just fine for me. I enjoyed it.

The 80's were a fun time to be a teen.
Gotta admit though I did have a few nightmares about Nuclear Holocaust. Watching stuff like The Day After didn't help.

In europe and america, there?s a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the soviets
Mr. krushchev said we will bury you
I don?t subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy from oppenheimer?s deadly toy
There is no monopoly in common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent
To put the words in the mouth of the president
There?s no such thing as a winnable war
It?s a lie that we don?t believe anymore
Mr. reagan says we will protect you
I don?t subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the russians love their children too

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me, and you
Is that the russians love their children too

Sting - Russians - 1985

The 80's had some highlights.

U2, Metallica, GnR.

AC/DC's best album was released in 1980 with a new singer (and no matter what anybody says, Back in Black is better than anything Bon Scott did, sorry).

LOL GnR's music stands on its own. They created standards that will be played and covered by other bands for decades (case in point Sheryl Crow's remake of "Sweet Child O Mine"). Their songs sound just as good as any musical giants of the 70's when they're played back to back on Classic Rock stations.

2 words:

"Air Supply"

Bama 05-24-2005 09:18 AM

I love 80's music - could do without the hair though.

Foreigner, Air Supply, Mr. Mister, Fleetwood Mac, 38 Special, Zeppelin, GNR, Kiss - all good stuff in my book!

Anyone still have their sweat bands and for the girls their leg warmers?

Cassie 05-24-2005 09:23 AM

the 80's were great. there is a reason that decade is talked about more than any other decade to date.

Damian_Maxcash 05-24-2005 09:25 AM

I loved the 80s - but I did spend the most of the decade in London - It was a great place back then

Soooooo much fucking money

Pornwolf 05-24-2005 11:19 AM

The 80's were ok from what I could tell. Coke, whores and plenty of sex parties. Too bad I wasn't old enough to partake in what I saw goin on.

No drugs and sex parties are worth doin now in the AIDS generation.
