Mainstream is where the money is

And that is where im focusing 90% of my time. There is so many more different opportunities to make money than there is in adult.

And there is one major way of advertising that I can't use in adult, offline and word of mouth advertising. Some of you freaks might say check out my site bangthatbitchesthroat.com or whatever to some stranger or friend but not me Sure you can advertise adult offline but its limited, mainstream you can advertise almost everywhere. Free advertising is the best advertising

So are you cashing in on the other side?

Here's a good mainstream business.. besides real-estate.. though perhaps not for everyone.

Reselling for communications companies.. eg; Partner with companies like 'Optus' in Australia and take a small (5-10%)of every bill. It's not primarily web based but with even many regional businesses doing bills $100-$200k/year it can add up quite well over several years.

I agree, I started in adult because when I started main stream was not ready for VOD so went into Adult for cash flow, but now my concentration on is on main stream.

Mainstream, mainstream, blah, blah. Of course there's more money in 'mainstream' than there is in adult, but most people in this thread say so just for their image - and no one ever shows their 'mainstream ventures' on this board.

There is more money in mainstream because the term "mainstream" is way much more larger than "adult" .

This is very true. On a month to month basis, our mainstream revenues have been growing at a record clip. Plus, the fact that mainstream is so much easier to promote and network makes earnings forecasts even rosier. Low Cost outsourcing + Mainstream content verticals + niche product portfolio = $$$

It's interesting to note that within a growing range of product lines, mainstream actually pays more than many adult programs per consumer action. Whether you're talking PPC or PPS, the ad money flowing into mainstream is increasing webmasters' ROI.

If you use the word 'mainstream' on any non-adult owned webmaster forum youll be instantly shunned because publishers in 'mainstream' dont use that term so they will know you are from 'adult'

Why "shunned", Lee -- ?

Differences in terminology notwithstanding, this suggests that Adult Webmasters have something to be ashamed of, or have reason to conceal their experience -- when broaching opportunities with parties outside Adult.

I don't disagree there's a morality-based bias against our industry, and that -- as an Adult Biz ExPat making his way in the "mainstream" realm -- we won't face our share of ignorant discrimination for the fact. But, If anywhere I'm hopeful that the value we bring to the table will be appreciated, it's among the ranks of other Webmasters -- who know how hard it is to make a buck on a click --

it's easier to make monies in adult. Suppose it isn't. It's all serious companies or wanna be serious people. No crazy boards like gfy, no icq list full of friends, no funny bizzare querries in your traffic stats =)

and every site has to have pic of girl with headphones from hemera cd, some jerks in suits shaking hands and/or workin on laptops and bullshit text in small type. fuck em :-)

diversity is indeed the key...do both. Knowing how to market will help in either. That is partially why we have products for both markets because a good sales person, is a good sales person.

I remember working at an "incubator"/VC company back in the late 90s. They were so set on blowing $250,000 on "outdoor marketing" (billboards). Just like other dot bombs, the company went down just after 2001.

As for advertising offline, there are surely effective ways of doing it, don't expect outstanding results out of it tho.
