another question could be if the freehost is stable and dont screw around why not use it ?? and are we talking about the oldschool freehosts that have top and bottom banner or the free hosting that some sponsors offer ?
huge difference there if you ask me..

I use them for loading galleries in iframe's while link dumping them, aside from that you'd be an asshat to use them for sites or subing galleries on them.
