a Lady From Visa Just Told Me I Can't Do a Chargeback!?

That's odd... I think I have done it before with my Visa, but she claims it can't be done. She said I can only dispute the purchase within 2 months after the transaction.

Guess this must be some sort of new (perhaps only Dutch) regulation?
Anyone have experience with this?

The length of time to file a chargeback varies depending on your issuer. Seems your bank is only doing 2 months.

I think two months is sufficient period for the bank to accept any chargeback.
Must say its becoming a habit.

Seems like it, just called the bank which issued my MC and they don't do chargebacks anymore either. Also a similar dispute process although they do not have a timelimit.

Just curious, what did you wantto chargeback? I once wanted todo a chageback(ego VISA creditcard, postbank at that time) because some hosting company kept billing me. I had to fill in a lot of paperwork, and proof that the other company didn't want to refund me. How the *** do I proof that when they ignore me? Anyway after saying this si strange, and that I would call KASSA, it was done within a week

1. a domainname I paid for but never got transferred to me and dropped yesterday (so no chance of owning it anymore)

2. a designdeal I paid for and the designer went MIA immediately.

My bank charges like $20 or $25 to process a chargeback now. It's been printed on the front page of my last few statements.

I'm thinking that's a good thing all the way around. No more charging back 2.95 trials because they didn't like the site and shit like that.

Depends....

I booked a new server ( setup + monthly fee pro-rated + next monthy fee) on March 5th... Was buggy, problems, emails, etc .... On april 5th, they billed me again for setup + monthly. They got the server to work on April 10th ( faulty memory they claim ) with promises of compensation and adjustements ... I start moving 200 sites. On may 5th, they charge again, even tough sales person said they wouldn't and they would credit my account. Now, for the past 10 days, they don't answer emails, support ticket, forums, fax ... I already copied all sites to another server in another datacentre, forecasting the worst.
I think I should move... It is more than 3 months and over 1000.00 of charges ....

So 60 days isn't long depending on the situation...

I agree that that's a solid rule, I can live with a fee like that if it means I can get my money back from people who have scammed me. This leaves the subscription services out of the loop (since most memberships are around $30/month).

Stay on them and speak to someone else. I have another business (non-internet) and that merchant account allows customers to chargeback for UP TO TWO YEARS!!! It's not a high risk business because we get to swipe the card and get a signature, but still... 2 freakin' years. With that said, if a CB happens it does so within 2 - 3 months.

Certain types of transactions have a set time limit within which they can be charged back.

Also, I don't know what the consumer protection laws are like over there, but over here, the issuer only has to give you 30 days to charge it back.

Each bank is different for their cards they issue.

However, on the acquisition side of things, don't start rejoicing too fast. If the CDC is initiated, whether you win or lose the chargeback, the bank and the association still have the right to use the fact that it was initiated against your count.

Yes to charge back a service is easier than to charge back goods, I have never heard of them refusing to take a chargeback in fact 3 days ago Wachovia calle dme to verify charges and offered to cancel any I didn't pay for since the transaction showed up in Delaware and I live in florida. It was a mail order thing I got for my mom on mother's day and I didn't recognize the name they used for billing but when she said the price I immediately remembered it was the flower shop...
they are getting crazy down here with fraud and they called another guy here a week before they called me to offer the same shit

Expedia fucked up once and I tried to chargeback the airline ticket, well MBNA has this rule that you have to deal with Expedia. So they put us all on three way and then MBNA hangs up and says deal with Expedia. Well, I already had and they wouldn't do shit. So, I ate a $750 ticket. Jackasses.
