What the fuck Aplus.net hosting just called me

and said i recently registered a domain and was wondering if i had hosting for it. I only register my domains at Godaddy. I said who gave you my number and email address. He says i dunno we buy databases from companies.

So Godaddy sold my email and phone number to them

The call doesn't really bother me, it was my cell number too. If i used my home number that's a different story. That fact that in the privacy policy at godaddy it states they don't share your private info bothers me more.

one reason i don't ever give out my cell. always my home phone #. i don't know anyone that calls me on home phone anymore. last time i answered it was probably over a year ago. if they really need to talk to me they'll leave a message. i average about 30 blank messages a day from tele-marketers. only reason i keep that line for faxing.

I've got a call like that before, someone thinking I was running a paysite at the time and they wanted their plugins in it. Didn't pay attention to the name cuz the fuckers woke me up from a nap.

I don't think GoDaddy sells your info. They have their own hosting they want to sell.

There are a few places on the web where you find exactly what has been registered the previous day.

They use to do that to me all the time after I register a domain...call and try to sell me hosting and shit. Finally I told them 1 call per week was enough, and each week i'm gonna say no. Stop calling me or we're gonna have problems.
Havn't heard from them in over a year now

They just mine the public WHOIS database (they've called me too).

If you're in the USA, there's always www.donotcall.gov

I don't know about godaddy. I suspect Namecheap of doing the very same because I also got calls from Aplus. They're annoying as hell but to give credit where it's due, they do honor do not call requests. They haven't called me since I told them not to.

These companies use online services to see what doms have been purchased recently. The registrar is not at fault, the public whois system is the problem.

Aplus.net actually spiders whois info and calls on there own they dont buy shit. I talked to a manager there to complain and he told me they pull up whois database and make calls to try to get people to signup.

Give me the address and I'll do it for $50, a return greyhound ticket and a 6 pack of Guinness.

They mine the WhoIs, which breaks an ICANN rule. Somebody should report them to ICANN.

APlus calls me ALL the time. It is very annoying.

Aplus called me a while back after I had registered a few domains. They called back 3 times to try to set something up for me, after I wasn't even interested. Arg.
