Box Office Upsets??? Whassup at the movies?

I don't know what's up at the movies nowadays. Movies you think should make a fortune are barely breaking $25 million! These movies cost like $100 million to make and scaring up good dough at the box office nowadays is tough.

I thought XXX II would do better and "Kingdom of Heaven" should have rocked. Now I see " Monster in Law " beating out everyone. With Jane Fonda and J Lo.

I am so confused!

Will Revenge of the Sith tank?

Ha! See! No sooner than I wrote it, NBC News is covering it!

I think people aren't going to the movies unless the movie is a 'must have/must see'.

I know, it's scary! Ice Cube is always a big draw but nowadays people just aren't piling into the theatres! The story is now on NBC news tonight about it.

I figure it's just too much of a pain in the ass to go see a movie. Traffic, high cost of gas, high cost of tickets and food when you can wait 3 months, get it on DVD at home where you can fart and burp and make out with no one complaining.

It's far cheaper to have Netflix so why waste money?

A movie like Star Wars you gotta go see at the movies.

There aren't any actors outside of class stars like Sean Connery or Doris Day or any of the masters that I would even want to see in a movie. The newbies lack charisma. Goin' to the movies is an event not like you're goin' to the post office.

unfortunately i heard bad things of kingdom of heaven.....on the star wars side of things, it will kick ass and be huge. Also, romantic comedies are huge these days. Hitch was a block buster i think.

Studios really can care less now adays. They know they make 3-5 times the box office gross in dvd sales alone.

There are several problems plauging the movie industry these days.
Some of these are...
  • Ticket prices are high enough now that most people think twice before running to the theaters.
  • Theaters aren't convenient. Why go out when you can hit it up on demand, or from NetFlix.
  • Theaters aren't that impressive anymore. More and more people are getting big screen TVs and surround sound systems.
  • The movies suck. I think that creativity is pretty well dead in Hollywood. Quite a few movies these days are just ripoffs of Japanese or Indian movies or worse yet, a remake of an old movie.
  • Going out sucks. Who wants to go to a theater and sit with a bunch or people you don't know and probably don't like?

I could go on, but I won't....

It's a kids movie that's for over 18s, go figure the thinking behind that.

These types of movies have been done to death and while Holleywood is turning out two a week to a formula they will find audiences reacting the same way, staying at home.

Kingdom of Heaven wasn't bad, better that Alexander and Troy, but lacked quality and depth. Obviously made to a formula to get in audiences and fails to do that because it was made to the formula.

Hollywood needs to realise that movie making at it's best is an art and not a spreadsheet.

xxx2 was NOT great, and was targetted to younger audiences for sure

i swear, if ice cube cocked his head and gave one more tagline, i was going to shoot him...he must have gotten that face close up at least 20 times, and every time he said something that WISHED it was as good as "i'll be back"./..but it was always cheesy too thought out shit....

close up taglines...we can do with less of them

Y'know, Dave Chappelle is reported to have mentioned the problem in Hollywood which mirrors what our people out here have been saying for years.

If you've ever worked in mainstream entertainment like I do you'll see what he means. I'll post it in another thread.
