Glazer bids for Man U., serious money.

Seems amazing for a football team...... $1.5 billion

but imagine what a brand like Beckham is worth, and it seems to be gaining popularity in the States as well

is the formal bid in? Thought it was supposed to be presented tomorrow. JP Morgan supports him so I guess he will make a bid whatever the cost.

Sheik Mohammed was rumoured to be interested also.

As a man u fan i'd prefer Sheik as he is fucking loaded (doesn't need to borrow like Glazer) and he's a nice guy.

Are you still drunk in London? You'd have to be to not know David Beckham signed for Real Madrid 2 years ago.

This is pretty much a done deal, those 2 irish horse owners selling was the nail in the coffin.

An American owning the biggest sports franchise in the world, and a British soccer team to boot...who'da thunk it??

Yes and as a Bucs fan I wish ignorant Man U fans would stop coming over to the messageboard at buccaneers.com and stop whinning about it. The only reason they hate him is because he's an American which is retarded. If he was English this would even be news.

Thye say he's going to ruin the team. WTF what a bunch of retards. The Bucs were a joke until the Glazers bought them and as I recall they won a Super Bowl a couple of years ago. Now the previous Bucs owner, now that was a bad owner.

They're worried about the fact that he doesn't actually have the money to buy the club, he's borrowing it. What do you think he will have to do to get his money back? Obviously win stuff and make them the best team in England, with Abramovich at Chelsea that will not happen as Glazier will need alot of money to strengthen the squad, and Roman simply has alot more money and can alway outbid him in everything. Not that Chelsea need to do that now, they have the strongest team in England.

I don't think he will manage to keep Man U as the biggest football club in the world as they are past their best. And both him and the club will end up bankrupt (or he will bail out and leve the club in ruins)

Glazer already owns a little under 30% of United, a similar shareholding to a couple of Irish racehorse owners who seem tempted to sell him their shares. He has until next Tuesday to make a formal offer or withdraw and with fans threatening boycotts which could cost the club $25 million a year if Glazer wins, the outcome is not at all certain.

United is the most profitable soccer club in the world and makes around $50 million profit per year. A couple of years ago, another American billionaire, Philip Anschutz, was also rumored to be considering a takeover. Glazer's current bid - he has already been turned down three times - is close to $2 billion.

Try finding out some facts. The problem is that on top of a 10% ticket price increase that already has the fans upset, Glazer's bid would mean more price increases to pay back the money he would have to borrow to finance his bid.

MU is already corporate football to the nth degree. They have a whole range of different shareholders and I doubt anyone could care less who holds the biggest block (although for obvious reasons fans and some shareholders might prefer that no one individual holds enough to run the place like a private toy).

Oh I have facts. Facts is English people are tards. Did it ever occur to you that

A) even before today he already owned over 1/4 of the team?

B) The WHOEVER buys the team will most likely increase ticket prices?

C) There are MILLIONS of Man U fans so if they care so much each one could by a few shares of the publically traded club at less than $6 a share and buy the club themselves?

Read my post, they are not just worried about the ticket price, they are worried about putting the club in a huge debt and going bankrupt (if he get's 90% of the shares he can actually transfer all the debts onto the club). If that happens there is nothing to stop him from simply walking away.

If it was as simple buying shares don't you think this guy would have done this ages ago?? The fans have put together a group to try and buy every share they can get their hands on, but there aren't that many for sale.

Also btw. NFL is a completely different thing than English football, do teams get relegated in the NFL? No, you can go a whole season with out winning a game, and still compete at top level next season.
Look at Leeds and their history, next season will be their second out of the top league in England, that is what Man U supporters are worried about...

Btw. I like that Malcolm guy, hope he gets all the shares!

Listen he nees $1.3bil right? I KNOW for a fact that the Bucs are worth at keast half that if not more. If he REALLY want Man U he could always sell the Bucs. I would hate that because unlike Man U fan I know what he has done for my team. And I can help if soccer has stupid rules that demotes teams. I seriously doubt that will happen under Glazer. Man U has millions of fans they pay good money for Man U merhcandise and if they got demoted not only would peole not show up to game but merchandise sales will fall too.

Glazer isn't a fool. He changed the Bucs logo and colors and got the team good and guess what the Bucs went from near dead last in merchandise sales to a top 10 seller anually. Also if all he wanted to do is make moeny he culd have kept doing what the old Bucs owner was doing. He never invested in the team, the team lost a lot, the stadium was always half full and most of those people were fans of the OTHER team. Yet the Bucs were always one of the most profitable teams every year.

I guess the point of fans over here is that they want someone to have a love for their club...but when you became a traded company this was going to happen one day.

Well Is till don't get what harrasing innocnet fans of the NFL team he owns does. Because

A) No one at the Bucs board has owns any part of the team

B) No one at the Bucs board has any personal relationship with the Glazers

C) Glazer doesn't read the board and even if he did I seriously doubt reading some Man U fans post will change his mind.

So when I see threads like "Die Glazer die", "Burn in hell Glazer", "Tell your owner......", "You better leave Man U alone or else" over at buccanners.com what am I to think about Man U fan other than they are retards? Good thing they have awesome mods over there.

Also trying to tell us Bucs fan how bad of an owner he is when winning 5 games a year was a GOOD year and we had 3 winning season in 19 years and Glazer comes and and within 8 years we had 5 playoff apearances and a SB title, well that person isn't going to be taken seriously

well, that is wrong but it shows the level of seriousness football (soccer) gets in this country BUT it is wrong and most people would think so when they have their clear heads. Heck, half the man u fans don't even live in Manchester.

Hmmm what to think of this

"United's shares rose 34.25p, or 12.9%, to 299.25p shortly after the announcement."

Again, they are afraid he will transfer the debt onto the club (he will not sell the bucs if they are doing well and man u bad, he is a business man not a man u fan). So if things are going bad, and he is actually losing money on Man U, there is very little to stop him from bankrupting the company and going back home. That would be the beginning of the end for Man U, relegation, losing star players etc. (note, I am talking about if they do bad and Glazer leves the club)

anyone who cant see why the glazer bid is bad for the club is a maniac. He is financing the purchase of the shares with a loan of 300 million. United has tradditionally been the richest of all football clubs, in terms of profit. That will stop now, they will have to cut the wage bill and the squad and will increase ticket prices. However the increase in ticket prices isnt the half of it, to pay back 300 million he will have to sell some assets, be it players, the ground etc. This is worrying times for the club.
