Depends on how you define serious.
Small sums under 1000.00 yes I have not known names and just the handle. Over that amount and typically I want to know a little more with the exception of which handle it is.

Most of the people ive ever done business with ive not known their names till the deal was done where after we either spoke on teh phone or simply emailed.
Then again most were referred by other clients and still are.

Still only been ripped off once, by David Slaughter which i believe a fair amount of people on this board knows about....
He ripped 4 other providers in the process

I usually want to meet a business' owner(s) before doing anything signicant with them.

Name (first and last) is an abolute minimum... I prefer more.

If you're legit why wouldn't you give me your name?
