There was problems with the first Maytag front load washers, but the new ones are OK. When you buy make sure you know they are a a current year's model number, not something from a few years ago they are trying to get rid of.

Search for Maytag class action lawsuit. That is in regards to their older front loaders.

If you are buying a top loader then you will have no problems at all.

I've had my Kenmore (Sears) about 10 years now (one of the duplex full-size dryer on top of washer units) and it's been so good I would probably head right for another one if I had to replace it.

Always buy a front loader they will clean your clothes better and without damage. Top loaders are 20 years behind the times and cost more in energy and water to run.

Agreed. We bought the Kenmore front loaders from Sears... the HE4, I think they're called. I love them.

Maytag Repairman - In 1967 the Maytag Company® located in Newton, Iowa hired actor Jesse White to portray their Maytag Repairman on television commercials. His character (1967-1988) symbolized the reliability of Maytag products to the extent that their repairman never got any repair calls and thus became the "loneliest man in town." The Maytag Repairman was created by the Leo Burnett Advertising Agency based in Chicago. In 1989, Maytag replaced Jesse White as their spokesperson (he died in Los Angeles on January 9th, 1997 at the age of 78 from cardiac arrest) and in turn hired actor Gordon Jump who previously starred in the sitcom WKRP IN CINCINNATI as Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson, a bumbling radio station manager. A few years later Gordon Jump (a native of Dayton, Ohio) died on September 22, 2003 from complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He was 71. TRIVIA NOTE: On 12/1/1991, Bob Leibold as Bob's Specialty Service in Monroe, Wisconsin started a Maytag washing machine during a Maytag promotion and expected it to run about 2 and 1/2 years. Amazingly, the machine ran until August 16, 1996 and stopped after 32,500 hours. The machine pumped over 56 cycles a day and cost about a $1 a day in electricity. Leibold calculated it was the equivalent of 193 years of use by a family of four. lg has a new one that is a washer and dryer in one. its about $1000. if i needed a washer and dryer i would definitley get it.

Thanks for the input people. I did some measuring and the Maytags that I wanted are a 1/2 inch to big. They would block my door. The sales person told me they are the last of the porcelain tubs by Maytag. But they have the new line of Maytags and they are 1/2 inch smaller...so I will go with them.

My second choice would have been Kenmore.

american brands are very bad quality, you should go with european brands.
