Should I use a hosted service (blogspot etc) or install a simple php script?

Does using blogspot etc get you better rankings than your own hosted domain + script?

Get your own domain. Download wordpress from www.wordpress.org. Find a theme you like for your new blog here http://www.alexking.org/software/wor...me_browser.php. Post daily and make sure your pemalinks are SE friendly (after you upload wordpress and login go to options -->permalinks (i use the structure that automatically appears there - /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/) click update permalink structure and you will see it says you need to update htaccess. It tells you what to add to htaccess. Copy and paste it in there). Then write like mad.

I have one on blogspot, and it is new. I am getting maybe 3 to 5 hits a day. I have had it for about 2 weeks. We are planning on getting a domain, and doing more with wordpress or something like that.

I would go with a domain name and wordpress so you will have total control.

You'd be crazy not to get your own domain.

BlogSpot is in a perfect position to be packaged up and sold to the highest bidder. If that happens they could axe all the adult content similar to what Yahoo did when they took over eGroups.
