Evan, you should check out Janet Murray's work -- she's at MIT now. I met her at IBM.

The problem with holography is -- it's optical.

Lots of other interesting technologies vying for ultimate dominion of 3D-Rep. -- :winkwink:

there is no way to know what the popular layman's term will be. what do you think it will be called?

i will check out janet's work if it is posted anywhere.

Well, as I see it, "holo" has already been terminally de-coupled from the actual methods and mechanisms of Holography by the popularization of the term in Star Trek, TNG -- namely, "holodeck".

The valiant commitment by the ST-TNG Exec. producers -- Piller, Berman & Echevarria -- to "plausible science" notwithstanding, pretty much nobody thinks of refraction and interferometry when they think about the holodeck, as depicted on the show. It may as well be a block box, in which Technology (behaving as "magic", in the AC Clarke sense) simply materializes physical truth. The fact that this is also the same show that brought us (that bane of Reverse Engineers) the Transporter, does NOT help.

In your case (and, if I were, as you are, interested in guessing jargon of the future), I would focus not on the branding of a technology which very few people really understand, anyway (even before the Holodeck eroded what little scientific clarity had ever been accorded to Holography, in the popular grasp, in the first place), but focus instead on the applications of holography, and the catchy descriptors to be fathomed there -- :2 cents:

I nevertheless secured a few domains I have kept note on because I had fears your post might cause some GFYer to find and register them. ;)

HoloGirls.com
HoloImaging.com

Repetitive Monkey 05-04-2005 06:21 PM

HoloSex.net is available, for those who might be interested.

pxxx 05-04-2005 06:31 PM

Interesting thread, will holosex.net be worth anything?

Rich 05-04-2005 07:18 PM

That's a very interesting concept. That could really pay off in the long run and it's not costing you much right now.

it looks like the opinions are mixed so far, but if "holo****" domains become of significant value, i think the .net's will be better than average .net's because of the perceptions at play. the average .net is silver or bronze but in some niche's .net makes sense. i give this niche a decent shot at .net's being useful if the .net jives. so, say you have a 3d holography site that would be a network or community for example, the .net could be good.

i still am .com minded but i am picking up some .net's in this gamble for a few words that the .com was already taken. anytime i get a choice .com i always want the .net too btw.

zackly what i am thinking and it has worked for us more times than not.

when we sold pornstar.com (which we bought from pornstar clothing company a long time ago) the huge list of surrounding domains we reg'd years before helped a lot for example.

RM- that is a good translation of probably one of the most advanced posts I have ever read. In a few years though I bet that all of the jargon and science will be considered familiar.

BradShaw 05-04-2005 09:23 PM

Evan, are you back on the herb? Rumor is that you have some debts to people in the biz. Maybe spend less time on GFY.

XPays 05-04-2005 09:24 PM

51 windows into the domain niche

ceo's have to be able to ceo their way through anything and you'll be talking about all the domains we are buying and licensing fees and other fun stuff soon.

the sleeping giants have awoken and we are taking no prisoners. every payout we have ever had scheduled has been paid on time since 1998 so go have a chuckle with yourself.

BradShaw 05-04-2005 09:29 PM

English?

Are these debt stories I am hearing true? Someone loaned You a couple 100k, and you have not paid them back?

I would have figured you had 8 figures in the bank easy. Do not tell me you blew it on drugs.

BradShaw 05-04-2005 09:30 PM

BTW, this was not a payout, rather a loan to you. Maybe I will make a call tomorrow to verify the story. But I think you know what I am talking about.

our cash flow is fantastic. you missed the boat to badger us when we were dealing with microsoft. we are back bigger than ever and you mean absoutely nothing to us. we have no opinion of you whatsoever and you your statement is false and actionable.

BradShaw 05-04-2005 09:33 PM

Evan, I really could care a less about badgering you anymore. I have moved on, and wish you the best. kisses mr. teflon.

WE DO NOT OWE OR HAVE AN OUTSTANDING LOAN AND YOU ARE OUT OF LINE

XPays 05-04-2005 09:36 PM

check with your sources - make all your calls and then apologize here by this time tomorrow. you have 24 hours to fully retract your false and potentially damaging statements.

BradShaw 05-04-2005 09:38 PM

Evan, you are always good for a laugh. I really thought you grew up. But you are an idiot, call yourself mr. teflon, then make threats. Snuggles is ready. Idiot. Next.

Like your fake nick - here is speak(ing)thetruth

we refunded that potential investors $300k plus interest within 10 days of the first far-out legal letter we got from him btw.

the same guy also went around shopping our patent and telling people lots of false things. you have bad info but i am glad to deflate your excitement by clueing you and anyone in. We were fucked financially with Microsoft battling us for 17 months. We are very proud of our turnaround and our ability to circumnavigate that ancient history and are back to biz as usual.

TEFLON is right and because we are sick of litigation we did not sue the guy spreading false rumours and will overcome all of the harm he causes by being straight up and truthful and the fact that we own 100% of all of our businesses.

i think you are just jealous of the people i pay attention to and miss battling with me.

XPays 05-04-2005 09:47 PM

btw brad - that story is from 2004 and is that old. get out from under the rock.

XPays 05-04-2005 09:48 PM

Our new product XTXN plugs right into any stats program btw that people might be licensing.

XPays 05-04-2005 09:50 PM

It was very liberating sharing with you all. consider this my ambush interview moment :1orglaugh

XPays 05-04-2005 09:56 PM

Webmasters coming up- I am here for you. We have had lots of up's and 1 down and seen a lot. I am always sympathetic and my experiences have given me a humble appreciation for the privileges I once took for granted.

ok, so back to being visionary-ish again-

do you think the thread title is agreeable?

The technology will definitely be better and more available within long, in fact pretty damn good holograms have already been created, but in relation the subject of this thread we have to consider the chances of the internet/domains taking a completely different direction by that time.

Well put and that is the reason I suggest limiting the number of domains registered here. You have to be in it to win it but there are few certainties as i proved with .usa and also holding my dialer domains forever.

Repetitive Monkey 05-04-2005 10:07 PM

But, yes, the risk is definitely worth the ~$10 name/year in my view.

Repetitive Monkey 05-04-2005 10:16 PM

Also, another risk factor to keep in mind is that WHEN this becomes commercial enough and it replaces current medium standards, any name attached to it will die along with the novelty of owning it. A video will still be a video. We wouldn't go around saying "holovideo". Not saying that it would be a bad brand to own though.

Is it me, or does this guy come off as an absolute fucking weirdo?

I don't know you from Adam, Xpays. So don't take this as an isolated trolling attack. But my god man, do you read half the shit you say? You're absolutely gone in the fucking head. Read my prior posts if needed, I'm no hater. Rarely do I call people out. I am not motivated by sig views/dollars, nor a hidden motive looking to assassinate your GFY moniker. Just simply, an observation from an unbiased party. You really need to cool it, and or remain the same - but just stop posting publicly. Either or. **

**I actually feel bad for once, since this attack is completely unwarranted. You have done me no wrong. But as a member of the GFY community, I simply cannot bite my tongue here. You're out "too" out there, and I felt compelled to comment.

XPays 05-04-2005 11:04 PM

watches, cell phones and wireless devices, video games, monitors and displays... what are some other good applications for 3d imaging?

I'll take that as a compliment because 99% of people can agree and all 99% can still be wrong. thanks for the feedback and no offense taken :thumbsup

edit- also this is Evan posting and not everyone in our company is as far-out as me if that is a consolation.
