Can i place an ipcam outside? Hardware question..

Stupid question but im about to give it a try so please stop me..

i still have one of those sitecom $150 wirless ip cams left and found the perfect spot outside my residence..

If id tape up the unit making it water-proof (it wont be in direct contact with rain etc anyway) by taping it up would it last outside?

or are temperature swings and environment moist fatal and unstobbable for inhouse equiment?

Best solution would be to get a cam box they are only like 25 bucks. I have a few on my property with cams like in the horse barn. They work great.
