Question here regarding an idea involving a linklist...
For the past week I've been developing a linklist and I decided to script in a feature I call "SiteAlerts" - where the visitors can add up to 5 niches to be notified via automatically (cron) email either daily or weekly of new freesite listings. I figured this would be a good way to build a newsletter...
A buddy however told me this would NOT be a good idea because once the list gets big, people will start complaining - regardless that they signed up for it, and regardless that there would be a very noticable remove link along with "You received this email because you signed up for this service at Blah.com" - clicking would instantly remove them and they wouldn't receive any future emails... What do you think? Having thought about it, I think I probably won't be able to do it but that's a damn bitch as it is nearly finished. This is what the email would look like (an ad image I designed to promote it) ![]() |

The concerns you have affect anyone sending out to a newsletter. Yes, there will always be some asshole who will complain. But if you let your host know about it beforehand and honour your remove requests, you shouldn't have a problem (other than dealing with people whining occasionally).

hehe
psycho, i think the basic problem arise from the moment you start bulk mailing links of other sites you do not have taken a permission. |

sounds like a good idea, as long as you log the date and ip of the email join and have a working unsubscribe link you should be good to go.
