US closes book on Iraq WMD hunt

Duelfer said Saddam Hussein had created a pool of weapons experts
The US chief weapons inspector, Charles Duelfer, has said inquiries into weapons of mass destruction in Iraq have "gone as far as feasible".
Mr Duelfer also said an official transfer of WMDs to Syria ahead of the Iraq war was not likely.

The CIA adviser reported last year that neither expected stockpiles of chemical or biological weapons, nor evidence of recent production had been found.

However, he did say Saddam Hussein had wanted to restart WMD programmes.

Terror risk

"After more than 18 months, the WMD investigation and debriefing of the WMD-related detainees has been exhausted," Mr Duelfer, head of the Iraq Survey Group (ISG), wrote in a 92-page addendum to the report issued in October.

"The use of a single even an ineffectual chemical weapon would likely cause more terror than deadlier conventional explosives," the supplementary report warned.

Mr Duelfer said that while the ISG believed that it was unlikely that WMD material had been officially moved to Syria in the run up to the war, it was "unable to rule out unofficial movement of limited WMD-related materials".

The US and Britain used allegations that Iraq possessed WMDs as the primary justification for invading Iraq in 2003.

You just answered the question, they were used on the Kurds. End.

The US goverment could not give one single location to the weapons inspectors that could produce any evidence.

The Iraqi army was decimated after the Gulf War.

Iraq was starved of cash to buy drugs and food due to sanctions.

Saddam did find money to build great palaces with no expense spared for him and anyone of his cronies.

The best Saddam had were the SCUD missiles, seems he never replaced them.

They gave the special services a list of obsolete and non existent military targets to destroy.

The US spends billions on satelites and inteligence gathering. Which is either the biggest waste of money, run by fools and idiots or a bunch of liars.

THEY HAD FUCK ALL EVIDENCE TO JUSTIFY THE WAR.

Bin Ladens family is very close financially to the Bush's. They may have struck a deal. You leave Osam alone and we will keep him quiet. Seems he is quiet.

And the US with all it resources are totally unable and unwilling to find an old ill man dependent on drugs and superior medical care. Or he's dead.

Clue: They found Saddam hiding in a dugout bunker. That's where to look for the WMD.

They should have gone in with 10,000 backhoes instead of 100k soldiers.

Digging up every square centimeter of Iraq is now the only viable option.

WMD or not - they had (was given) enough time to dig it deep into the desert. Its a big country and I dont think Saddam was THAT stupid.

Todays score: 1-0 to Bin Laden;
more splitted world, more paranoia in people, more killed people... and Laden is still holding cave party.
Its a game you can't win, unless you start thinking more like Ghandi...

I'm not fond of Bush, but I liked Clinton. However, Clinton more or less just sat on his hands while Saddam fired missiles at our planes patroling the no fly zone. We had a dozen reasons to take out Iraq, WMD was just one of them that the press pushed hard because it was scary. Funny now how it seems all of the terrorists are in Iraq, killing Iraqis. As long as they don't come to the mainland US I'm happy.

But there were WMD in Iraq. The day we attacked Iraq they fired missiles at us that had been banned because of their range. We found plans to build nuclear bombs burried in someone's back yard. And worse, a few roadside bombs have been found to contain gases and chemicals long since banned in Iraq.

There is no doubt in my mind we did the right thing here. Bush might be destroying the US, but this is the one thing he got right.

Most Saddam's chemical weapons were either disposed or became inert in the early 90's. It is very expensive to maintain a stockpile of weapons. Leaks, rust, improper storage, etc. shorten the lifespan of any bomb or weapon.

In one form or another this is written in the Canadien, American, British, Isreal and Iraqi military handbooks:

Conventional Weapon of Destruction: High Yeild Explosive - eg. Scud Missles
Weapons of Mass Terror: Chemicial & Biological - Miltarily ineffective.
Weapon of Mass Destruction: Nuclear or other Atomic explosive device.

There was no viable nuclear program in Iraq.
Therefore, there was never any weapons of mass destruction.

I guess the British and American Generals must have been home sick the day they taught in the "Military College"

I realize most Americans are stupid and don't care that there are no WMD in Iraq because the media now tells them that the war was for other reasons, but there's one huge problem. This administration lied to every one of America's allies and tried to sucker them in to sending young men and women to die, using information they knew was falsified. This is the most impeachable offense this administration is guilty of so far IMO. The US government forges alliances with other countries over literally hundreds of years, and then these cocky assholes knowingly lie to the allies that previous administrations have created. This is probably the most outrageous scandal to come out of the Iraq war, but of course Americans don't care because TV doesn't tell them to care.

This idea that Saddam hid WMD is ludicrous and just another right wing smokescreen. If you're the leader of a country and you're about to be invaded why in the world would you hide your weapons instead of using them? Its like someone breaking into your house and you hide your gun, makes no sense.

There's almost no question that this will go down as the most shameful period of American history. I hope the rednecks who voted for him are proud of destroying the reputation their country has built over the sweat and blood of many generations. These useless religious hicks contribute absolutely nothing to society, and because there's so many of them, they get to elect whichever lying politician says God the most times and pretends to be a cowboy. It's fucking pathetic.
