required reading for adult webmasters

I've noticed a lot of new people around the boards lately so I thought I would post this. I'm no Lensman, Fantasyman or Hun, I don't even own a paysite and I'm not even BP4L ( although I do live in the same town ) But I do pretty good in this biz and these are a few of the books I read that gave me some good ideas:

1.Triggers : How to Use the Psychological Triggers of Selling to Motivate, Persuade & Influence
by Joseph Sugarman, Dick Hafer (Illustrator), Ron Hugher (Compiler)- this is an invaluable book. When it comes right down to it, we are not in the porn biz or the web design biz or the photography biz we are in the sales biz and this book really hels you understand what triggers people and makes them want to buy.

2.Advertising Secrets of the Written Word by by Joseph Sugarman, Dick Hafer (Illustrator) another great book about ad writing and selling

these two are really about investing and budgeting your money. . . they most likly won't make you rich but they really helped open my eyes to debt, money and investing.

1. 9 Steps to Financial Freedom by Suze Orman

2. Wealth in a Decade by Brett MacHtig

and then a work of fiction you can either read the play or watch the movie they are both great

Glengarry Glen Ross by david mament

anyway, these are some of the books I read a while back that have helped me make more money with my sites and then budget it and save it.

Hope you read them and they help you too.

After Graduating College, I promised myself I would never read another book.

But the first book you posted sounds intresting.

Still its a book, and still the thought of one makes me gag.

you know what I always thought would be funny is if someone wrote a book that was filled with nothing but good pulling text links for adult sites and then did a book on tape of it so I could drive around in my car with the windows down and have some sexy voice blaring things like " Fuck my raw pussy!" " Wanna help me shave my pussy." " I need you to cum on my face." ect. . .

it would be good clean fun for all.

If I could plug a few I find useful -

Negotiations - (business 2 business sales & negotiating with the woman)
"GETTING TO YES" by Roger Fisher and William Ury. Everything that needs to be said about negotiating.

Strategy, Confidence, Inspiration
"THE ART OF WAR" by Sun Tzu - quick read, only a handful of pages - great reminders - sound strategy. re read every few months.

Life Strategy - Focus and Discipline
"7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE" by stephen covey (much has been said about Covey, but the ideas are right on the money)

For Fun - FLOW by mihaly csikszentmihalyi - a great book to couple with 7 habits...has you examine your life to find out what makes you happy.

pst.... GREAT THREAD, Thanks!

nearly forgot

Designing Web Page usability.

I just picked it up last week. It's a great book but he makes some comments about advertising...which of course should be taken with a grain of salt since that's the way we all pay our bills.

I shared my modivation book's titles with a friend the other day. interesting that this would pop up. the two that i reccomend are ones that a person would not see as books that would hlp you with buisness but they help me alot.

1: the godfather.. not the movie.. read the original book. there is so much information in there that is is almost a gameplan for success. and i model myself and my buisness after it. (except for the killings ;-)
2: The Good Earth : yeah i know you read it as a kid in school, but read it now and look between the lines. it has alot of information about being meek while rising to the top!

hope you like them. like i said, the movies are not like the books so use your brains and soak it in.

After posting last night... i picked up and starting reading FLOW again... what a sweet book...

It reassures me that I'm normal for sinking myself into my work for hours on end...missing meals and forgetting to go to bed. I need somebody telling me that's okay...cuz most people are hypercritical...

Now I can tell them with confidence to go fuck themselves, I'm in my "optimal expierence"!

i think in reference to great reading that will get you far in this biz you have to look at American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis.

Ellis is one of my favorite writers although I couldn't get through Glamorama. American Psycho is one of 3 books that phsically disturbed me
