CVV2 or not?
Hi,
We optionally collect CVV2 info on the back of our payment forms using Netbilling's interface. We tried a week of leaving it off of the form since we control this our seleves with their fraud scrubbing tools and saw just a slight increase in sales without the CVV2 field on the form. Has anyone else seen a differencwe with or without CVV2? Mark |

Do you really think that increase of sales has anything to do with it? I mean, people are already filling out there credit card details, what difference does it make to fill out a CVV number. Really it's just 3 numbers. I don't see why that would scary off customers who are already willing to pay.

Cvv2 does work except when someone does not understand what it is even though the little credit card picture is there even. Or sometimes, the CVV2 # has rubbed off of the back of the card. I have a card or two where this has happened.

Can't you have some liabilities from not collecting that information?
If so, you have to ask yourself if a few extra sales are worth putting your merchant account in jeopardy.

I can tell you this we have got 2 chargebacks just reversed BECAUSE we had the cvv2. Just a heads up, the other ones were just scammers that won.... |

The key purpose of CVV2 was to prevent stolen card use as it is against Visa and MasterCard regulations to store that value. Meaning the value couldn't be hacked from a database and you must have the card physically present to know the CVV2 number.
It's also been plastered on nearly every online order page for years now. Any surfer who isn't familiar with it is either using mommy's card or won't be able to find their zipper and charge it back anyway. John |

it's worth it IMO. takes another 2 seconds for the customer to fill it out, and saves you money by preventing scammers, at least theoretically

CVV2 works great in keeping out the scammers. We have it as a madnatory field on our Netbilling join forms.

I played with the CVV2 data also, I stopped requiring it when I saw allot of people getting declined because they put in the wrong one, but then later started requiring it again. If I notice a decine that is for CVV2 I try to email the person and let them know, or sometimes I get email from someone who gets declined and does not know why and I run it manually to approve it, but any more, just for the fraud prevention, I require it. The other fraud stuff I have disabled tho. |
