My mate got scammed on ebay

My mate got scammed on ebay

He sells stuff all the time.

A few days ago he sold a games machine on the net. Funds came through via paypal.

He posted the item.

The next day he had a message saying that the funds were withdrawn.

I suspect he can do nothing. Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions.

Isn't there some form of sellers protection in place for things like this?

Either way, did he already ship the item? If so, show ebay and paypal copies of the shippig slip to prove that he already shipped the item.

I believe there is a seller's protection, if you pay for it; but, PayPal has a fraud department.

It doesn't look good, though.

I think he can report that seller to eBay and PayPal, and I am sure they'll sort things out.
At least he has the shipping info of that fool!! (name, address, etc).

Your friend needs to call both eBay and PayPal ASAP.

eBay 866.442.3229
PayPal 888.221.1161

PayPal does have buyer protection if the item was eligable - it must have been shipped to a PayPal verified address and he needs tracking info on the shipment. If he shipped via FedEx, DSL or UPS (basically anyone but USPS) call them first and have the shipment stopped and returned - they will have no problem doing this.

You said he got an email saying the $$ had been taken out of his account. PayPal can find where it went. Will it still be there? Probably not but they may be liable for the lost money. It also maybe be possible if his account was hacked that the person who won and paid for his ebay auction was not the one that took the $$$.

To report unauthorized use of your PayPal account go here while you are on the phone with them (might be a few mins hold and you can fill this out) https://www.paypal.com/ewf/f=sa_unauth.

If he has any other questions I'd be happy to answer them if I can.

I had a similar problem over a year ago and neither Paypal or eBay did anything to get my money back.

If you have a tracking number he should be able to get the money back through PayPal. I used to sell a lot on eBay with one of my businesses and things like this happened all of the time. If you need any help feel free to contact me.
