You need something that can transform 220 VAC to 110 VAC. A passive plug adapter wont do it...

But look at your power unit... maybe it is multi voltage

If it's a laptop, it's multi-voltage, so yes an adaptor will do and no need for a transformer.

All laptops are multi-voltage, so you just need a plastic plug adapter.

The phone line is more of a problem. I've had to hack into them all over the world but in many places the front desk will have an adapter, otherwise I strip the wires and make my connection copper to copper.

why would you want a phone line when all european hotels and coffee shops have wireless broadband?

Look at your power adapter:

if it says " input 110 - 240 V " , you are ok. Just need the adapter to fit in the wall...

A lot of the places I have been it was not available, even a year ago. Obviously that is changing, here too.

A year ago like now you can walk into any hotel or coffee shop and get on wireless broadband for free, I'm not sure where you went? I dont know anywhere in europe where people use a dial up connection, but most use wireless anyway
