This site probably has the highest user retention and loyalty of any site I've ever encountered -- and that includes mainstream and adult, both ad rev. and mem. fee.
I think anybody who comes back to GFY for a second visit, whatever expectations or ideas they may have had when they first came, is entering into a long-term relationship with the site, in the SOME FORM or other, whether they realize it at the time or not.
I was pissed at myself earlier today for feeling too distracted from my work by GFY. But now I'm feeling a little bit better about it.
Here's my answer to the above question (which I thought too personal to include among the basic choices): GFY offers me what has become an essential manner of communication and expression -- the outlet, the language have become a part of me. Blame: a fanatical obsession with the medium and an intense curiosity about the "places" we create online and the "people" we become in them.
