It is a completely different ballgame and in a few years when we begin to watch al the videos behing shot on the hew HDV cameras we will see lots of shots out of focus and framed poorly. I have been on a few sets where the camera guys are using the Sony HDV cameras just like they used their VX2100 cameras. You can't do this because focus is crucial.

Also, I think widescreen is bad for porn unless the shots are planned out. So gonzo scenes will always look better in 4:3.

At this point, there is not enough demand for the HD stuff. It is important to note that it really shows off every little flaw and imperfection in the scene, often making talent and sets look less than acceptable. Many hd tvs and dvd players allow zooming on the screen, which means people can look at specific areas up even closer. Not good for most talent out there, I am afraid!

Gonzo and HD don't mix. It is an incorrect mix of very high quality image and poorer quality shooting / more raw images. You would probably spend half your life trying to screw the picture up in editing to make it look decent.

16X9 is NOT friendly to porn either, as it changes completely the framing for many standard porn shots, and may require more steady camera moves to best show the action especially if one or more of the characters are standing up (which is the X9 direction) as opposed to laying flat on the bed (side to side being the X 16 direction). Again, this takes away from gonzo porn and potentially adds a little to the hyper high end soft image productions that might be looking for that really high quality look.

Overall, I have not seen anything porn shot in 16X9 that I liked.

Alex
