The much-maligned Ashlee Simpson, whose lip-synching debacle on Saturday Night Live and grotesque vocal emissions at the Orange Bowl halftime show have turned her into the new Milli Vanilli, had a lot to prove at Friday's sold-out concert at House of Blues.
In a storybook finish, she would have banished the doubters. In reality, which is different from reality TV, she offered one of the worst performances to hit this town in recent memory: Clumsy, brief (perhaps the only redeeming quality) and utterly devoid of musical merit.
