All I'll say is you get what you pay for. If it's got an amp and all the extras for $159- what do you think the guitar is worth? Save up more money and buy a quality guitar, you will be much happier...

Here is a guy that sells that one new for $99. http://216.119.87.84/JS-800.htm So it cant be the best guitar in the world. But it might work to learn with if you dont have alot of cash. |

You could get started with that, but you'd probably outgrow it fairly quickly. First question would be what sort of music do you want to play - what's good for R&B isn't necessarily going to cut the mustard if death metal's your thing..

It's best not to start with something simple as those cheap rigs can discourage you from continuing on because of the bowed necks, dischording, cheap fret material, etc.. If it's something you think you're going to stay with for awhile, get a good rig.. be it Fender, Gibson, etc.. check out http://www.musiciansfriend.com .. they have a nice selection and reasonable prices. They have a Yahama Pacifica 112 for $129 that might make a nice starter if you're not sure of your intentions.

Playing a cheap guitar will saw your fingers raw.
The necks are usually warped and twisted, the strings are too far off the neck and make playing more difficult, the frets are usually seated so poorly that you get fret-buzz and it sounds crappy. Even though that ebay bid is over I wouldn't pay $15.00 for the whole thing, it's a toy not a guitar. Fender Gibson Yamaha Suzuki Martin Stick to the good stuff. If you want to play around with distortion devices the BOSS has tons of 'em. <center>BOSS site</center> |

so, what would be the price range of the guitars that are worth buying for a starter? i have some experience with classic guitar but it got boring after a while. so i wanna move on to the electric guitar but i am a newbie pretty much, so i dont need anything fancy.

I think Ibanez has a line that you could pick up for $400 which is pretty good for starters (buy a new guitar) and you could pick up a Peavy 158 amp, (better than pignose anyway) under $100 (probably under $50) when you progress, you can upgrade the pickups and the bridge to your guitar and have a pretty decent piece of hardware

I have to go with SR and Wilber. Get a Fender Strat or one of the other quality brands. It is worth the money, it will encourage you to play, and it will hold it's value. |

I would check out a few used guitar shops in your area...You want to sit down and play it, along with a few others, before you decide what you want to get...
I would not buy a guitar online unless it is a great brand and new |
