The Israeli president, Moshe Katsav said that he shook hands with the leader of Iran, Mohammed Khatami and leader of Syria, Bashar Assad during the pope's funeral.

Today, Khatami "strongly denied" it:

"I strongly deny shaking hands, meeting and talking to the Israeli president."

"This claim is like other baseless claims made by the Zionist media in the past," he said.
