$3.79 a gallon for gas in Big Sur????

I'm watching the morning news and they're telling us that the average is $2.52 a gallon but in Big Sur ( california ) that they found $3.79 a gallon????

I thought I was hearing things that they 'meant' $2.79 but that's not it. They really meant $3.79!!! They had already mentioned prices over $3 so they dinna mean $2.79 they meant $3.79.

People over the past several days have been getting really cranky and I can see why.

How in the world people could let this shit happen is beyond me. If you were to show some naked woman on tv they would be in an uproar ready to fight in the street but gouge them and they sit there and take it.

the only benefit, in this area, for gas prices skyrocketing is the fact the parkway going south will be less crowded this year.

$ 3.79 @ gallon .. in europe you would pay around $ 5.00 - $ 6.00 for the same gallon.

$ 3.79 sounds pretty cheap to me ;-)))

Lizy, I knew someone was gonna come up with a Europe/USA comparison but this here is shootin' country.

If they charged $3.79 for gas in New York there'd be war.

I've been paying $5 @ gallon in europe for years.

You get used to it. There is a reason you won't see hummers etc. in Holland.

Read the other day a report that the Bush administration is responsible since they are stacking up 40mil barrels.

This will only get worse ;-((

Goldman Sachs released a controversial report last week indicating their analysts believe a price superspike trend may occur and oil will hit the $100 a barrel range briefly due mostly to speculators.

That would double what everyone is paying now effectively.

46 MPG? Dang!!!!

That's a great idea and will be catching on soon. I've worked with inventors over the years and lots of them have awesome alternate fuel solutions and technology modifications to the point where some even run on water.

It's so stupid for us to keep using fossil fuels to this degree.

Nothing will change until the prices on cigarettes and beer go up to compensate for higer gas prices. Then you'll see a war.

I'm not so sure about the water thing, but Diesel seems to be the future. It is huge in Europe... as soon as we get the high sulfur content out of ours we can start using all the high tech european engines they have over there. This is due in 2006 I think.

Also don't forget the refineries are getting paid in a dollar that is worth much less than it was five years ago - The price of fuel had to go up sooner or later

Gas in Big Sur has always been a $1.00 over the average price. Why? Beacause they are the only gas station for miles and miles. If you are heading south I think the next gas station is 50+ miles away. Goin North Carmel is about 30 miles. Its the same way when you come into CA on I-40 through Needles. There is only one gas station in the Mojave Dessert for over a 100 miles. They even have signs on the pumps there warning paople of the price so they don't just fill up and spend a $100 on gas without knowing it. I got 10 gallons there for about $45.00 last year. Soda was $2 too. LOL. What are you going to do? Running out of gas in the wilderness of Big Sur or the Mojave Dessert really isn't an option.

It costs me $45 to fill up my tank and its not even an SUV, I have to fill up twice a week, living in LA the only way to get around quickely is by car, so Im spending $2.69 a gallon at the place I thought always had the lowest gas prices, and even at $2.69 a gallon it still seems to be the lowest I have seen around where I live. Paying $90 a week just to get around is just fuckin rediculous, and Im sure it will only get worse..........

$2.77 here...

I am just glad i work at home.. i feel sorry for people who have to spend a huge part of their paycheck just to drive to work and back each day.

As the price of gas continues to go up..
I think what we will see in an addition to more efficient vehicles, is less suburban sprawl.. people will not want to be driving an hour to work each day.

I read reports of people spending the same for this bio-diesel. It wont be catching on anytime remotely soon in the USA. Take that to the bank.

BioDiesel Facts:

No greenhouse gases
Lower emissions
Better combustion
Cleans your engine
Better Lubrication
Non Toxic
Bio-Degradable
Give money to farmers not oil companies
Stop relying on foreign energy.. keep your money local
Any diesel engine can run it without modification

New technology diesels are VERY efficient and can get better milage than hybrids.

Now what we really need is a BioDiesel powered hybrid!

You spend the same, but you get WAY better milage than gasoline and it's WAY better for your engine than regular dirty dinosaur diesel. You CAN take it to the bank! You should see how fast these cars are selling in Toronto lately.. and like stated earlier... 70%+ of all new cars in Europe are Diesels now.

I think you'll be surprised... people will get sick of gas prices and will want a more efficient car. VW can't keep enough of these in show rooms lately. The trend is growing very fast and all manufacturers will have these available in the next couple years. Low sulfur diesel is the only road block and it's been gov't mandated for 2006.

Last I saw, MTL still is less than $1.00/l... Which means CAD$3.78 per gal, which is around USD$3.07 by today's exchange rate (1.22).

Not seein it happen, lets talk about all the other vehicles and everyday items that use gasoline and will never be diesel. That list is a mile long. Noone is gonna be rushing out to buy a diesel in the USA anytime soon. If you cant see that, then I dont know what to tell ya. Oh keep your Volkswagens too
