Laser Eye Correction

Hi guys, I'm thinking about getting laser treatment for my eyes. I have two local companies but I'm not sure which one uses the better equipment. I have:

Wavelight Allegretto
OR
Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217A Excimerlaser

Does anyone have any experiences with those lasers? Which one is the newest?

Thanks!

Not sure what the difference between those two is. I had my done about 8 months ago, and I'm still amazed to this day what a difference it makes. I went with Lasik surgery, which only took about 5 minutes and took my vision from 20/200 to 20/10. Best thing I've ever done for myself.

I had lasik done back in 98, best decision I ever made.

But no idea what equipment they used back then.

I don?t know but, i heard that these laser correction surgeries are a waste of time and money. A few people told me that when they got it everything was perfect and after a while their vision started to drop again so they had to get glasses again.

I am beyond blind, without my contacts, I cannot see the person in front of me. I was thinking of getting laser surgery done myself. 3 of my friends have done it and they said too that it was the best decision they ever made. Good luck to you!

I have oval shaped eyes, which causes me to have EXTREME far-sightedness. Those are my optomitrist's words.

I can see very, very far, but I can also see well close up. I don't wear glasses or contact and I work at the computer 8 hours per day.

As I get older I'm told I will need glasses. Can laser surgery correct EXTREME far-sightedness? I never asked...

That's awesome! My father has similarly bad eyes but he won't do it.

I'd find out who the local lawyers and judges are using. The treatment changed my life; but, I didn't use the discount guy on the corner. Find the most experienced doctor, pay more and get the best you can afford... After all, there is no going back

I don't know which of those is better... but make sure it is a Wavefront technique and that they use the new Intralase flap cutting technique. The Intralase greatly reduces complications.

My sister had it done a few months ago (don't know with which equipment, though) and she didn't have any complaints at all - her vision improved quite a lot. I'd have it done if I were you...

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I think I'll go for the Bausch & Lomb laser. I checked their website and the one they have featured there is actually the same as my doctor's, so I guess that it must be pretty new. At least they don't have any newer versions yet :D

That MAY happen many years down the way due to aging, but with my contract I have free upgrades for life. Say 30 years from now when I'm a lot older and my eye site naturally gets worst, all I have to do is pop in for a tuneup

There has been over 3,000,000 operations performed and ZERO people have gone blind, so basically there is nothing to lose. The surgery itself only takes 5-10 mins and is completly painless.

Mine was around $3600, with insurance covers ZERO of. I don't understand that, insurance will pay for glasses and eye check ups but not lasik.

Yes you are awake the entire time. You don't see anything though, they black out your vision for a few mins while they cut and laser.

Here's how it goes. They give you some numbing drops and then tape your eyelids open. They put this ring around your eye and when the turn it on it feels like someone is sucking on your eye, doesn't hurt at all just a unique feeling. They cute a small flap on your eyeball, pull back the flap, laser laser and but the flap back. The flap heels in a matter of 1-2 mins. You don't see any of this because your vision is blacked out on the eye they are working on. Remove the ring and tape from your eye, tape your eye shut and move onto the next eye. This is atleast how lasik is done.

As soon as the procedure is over you see perfect, well atleast I did. They give you sleeping pills that will knock you out for atleast a day. No showering for like 4 days, no rubbing your eyes for a week and you have to wear special glasses every minute you are away for 2 days.

All well worth it.

I have read horror stories about lasik corrections... people who actually have gone blind! I'm still reluctant to try... I find the risk too big, they only have to fuck up for a second and I'll be fucked for life.

I have considered it quite often really but the risk does not weigh up to the advantage for me. Maybe I'll have it done in the future but for now I'll stick with my glasses and contacts.

That extra option in your contract that they'll do free tune ups for life, is that standard or does it cost extra?

I'm getting it done in 2 days, my vision isn't so bad either, i'm -1.5 in both eyes but I figure there have been a lot less complications with the new equipment and I want perfect vision. I'll let everyone know how it goes, and if you don't hear from me like thurs-friday then don't get it done.

Implanted contact lenses are nice because they are reversible. It was popular in Europe and just came to the states. I'd do that over the lasik any day, personally. I like less invasive and reversible when I am talking about my eyes.

I won't go deeper into it... I'm sure your surgery will go fine. Please don't let me worry your mind!

I've never heard of anyone going blind either, don't worry buddy you'll be in and out in no time with perfect vision.

I just got back from the eyes doctors and everything checked out.
I will be undergoing lasek in June.

The doctor assured me it is impossibele to go blind from either lasik or lasek.
In about 4% of the cases it goes wrong. Meaning the result is not as planned and they will do it over again. That is the worst that could happen.
