Curious : Anyone using .NET for "adult" programming? - GoFuckYourself.com

I was working on some back-end development things recently and came across some tools (GPL) for building/running Microsoft .NET apps (using C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, and XML) using open-source development tools and make them so that they can run on a LINUX server.

I'm just starting to experiment with some things done for .NET/LINUX, and coming from a ASP/VB background it shows promise. Here's a brief feature summary with the links to grab the free dev tools.

Whatever works for you, if you're versed in it no point in learning something else unless you program for a living.

If you're in sales just do what you gotta do to get your product out there, no point in unnecessary delays.

A lot of our simpler stuff is done in PHP and the heavy duty stuff is Java

I've been doing programming of one type or another since the days of COBOL on CPM. I'm looking at doing this as a way to leverage C# and ASP. Using Java concepts in C# as web services with VB and ASP. It's just I have a ton of mainstream experience on M$ development that can also be done on LINUX platforms.

Done some non-adult user stuff with .net, been thinking about doing some server side stuff with mono. Php is fine for light-weight stuff, but I've never cared for Java for some reason and C# felt good working with it. C is an overkill even for a lot of server stuff.

Check out http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/ for a free .net IDE. Fast and lightweight.

Another long time coder too. Started on mainframes with fortran in '75

Yep!!! That's exactly the free .net IDE that I'm working with, SharpDevelop is pretty damn slick.
