Inspirational verse from a 2pac song

"Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z."

Reflected and disrespected, plus I'm rejected
You're just another rapper, who swears he's makin records
That's what they said - whenever I would walk by
I never tripped though - always kept my head up high
Eventually, I knew that I would find my way
After the darkest night, always comes a brighter day
And some would say, that turned away is all you'll get
I just said, "bet," and never let 'em see me sweat
Cause in the end, I knew that I would have it all
while non-believers, were prayin for my downfall
And some would call, and tell me that they wish me well
but in my heart, I'm knowin that they wish me hell
Yo get a real job, rappin doesn't pay the rent
I hate the studio cause that's where all my money went
Never surrender, it's all about the faith you've got
Don't ever stop, just push it til you hit the top
And if you drop, at least you know you gave your all
Be true to you, and that way you can never fall
But beware, these backstabbers ain't no joke
Just like a rope, they hang on you until you're broke
And when you're broke, they move onto the next dope
And there you are, can't even pay your car, nope
And when you reminisce, thinkin how you got dissed
remember how it felt, and then remember this
Be true to you, believe that there's no one bigger
Cause they can all suck dick - it's strictly for my niggaz

Jay-Z lyrics are always good for a bit of inspiration.

Ahh, who wanna bet us that we don't touch leathers
Stack cheddars forever, live treacherous all the et ceteras
To the death of us, me and my confidants, we shine
You feel the ambiance, y'all niggaz just rhyme
By the ounce dough accumulates like snow
We don't just shine, we illuminate the whole show; you feel me?
Factions from the other side would love to kill me
Spill three quarts of my blood into the street, let alone the heat
Fuck em, we hate a nigga lovin this life
In all possible ways, know the Feds is buggin my life
Hospital days, reflectin when my man laid up
On the Uptown high block he got his side sprayed up
I saw his life slippin, this is a minor set back
Yo, still in all we livin, just dream about the get back
That made him smile though his eyes said, "Pray for me"
I'll do you one better and slay these niggaz faithfully
Murder is a tough thing to digest, it's a slow process
and I ain't got nothin but time
I had near brushes, not to mention three shots
close range, never touched me, divine intervention
Can't stop I, from drinkin Mai-Tai's, with Ta Ta
Down in Nevada, ha ha, Poppa, word life
I dabbled in crazy weight without rap, I was crazy straight
Potnah, I'm still spendin money from eighty-eight... what?

I've always found the lyrics of Frank Zappa to be inspirational:

Dinah-Moe Humm

I couldn't say where she's coming' from,
But I just met a lady named Dinah-Moe Humm
She stroll on over, say look here, bum,
I got a forty dollar bill say you can't make me cum
(Y'jes can't do it)

She made a bet with her sister who's a little dumb
She could prove it any time all men was scum
I don't mind that she called me a bum,
But I knew right away she was really gonna cum
(So I got down to it)

I whipped off her bloomers'n stiffened my thumb
An' applied rotation on her sugar plum
I poked'n stroked till my wrist got numb
But I still didn't hear no,

Dinah-Moe Humm
Dinah-Moe Humm
Where this Dinah-Moe
Comin' from
Done spent three hours
An' I ain't got a crumb
From the Dinah-Moe, Dinah-Moe, Dinah-Moe
From the Dinah-Moe Humm

I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain't been to it
I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain't been to it
I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain't been to it
I got a spot that gets me hot
But you ain't been to it

'Cause I can't get into it
Unless I get out of it
An' I gotta get out of it
Before I get into it
'Cause I never get into it
Unless I get out of it
An' I gotta be out of it
To get myself into it

(She looked over at me with a glazed eye
And some bovine perspiration on her upper lip area
And she said...)
Just get me wasted
An' you're half-way there
'Cause if my mind's tore up
Then my body don't care

I rubbed my chinny-chin-chin
An' said my-my-my
What sort of thing
Might this lady get high upon?

I checked out her sister
Who was holdin' the bet
An' wondered what kind of trip
The young lady was on

The forty dollar bill didn't matter no more
When her sister got nekkid an' laid on the floor
She said Dinah-Moe might win the bet
But she could use a little ________ if I wasn't done yet

I told her...
Just because the sun
Want a place in the sky
No reason to assume
I wouldn't give her a try
So I pulled on her hair
Got her legs in the air
An' asked if she had any cooties on there
(Whaddya mean cooties! No cooties on me!)

She was buns-up kneelin'
BUNS UP!
I was wheelin' an dealin'
WHEELIN' AN' DEALIN' AN OOOOH!
She surrended to the feelin'
SHE SWEETLY SURRENDERED
An' she started in to squealin'

Dinah-Moe watched from the edge of the bed
With her lips just a-twitchin' an' her face gone red
Some drool rollin' down
From the edge of her chin
While she spied the condition
Her sister was in

She quivered 'n quaked
An' clutched at herself
While her sister made a joke
'Bout her mental health
'Till Dinah-Moe finally
Did give in
But I told her
All she really needed
Was some discipline...

Kiss my aura...Dora...
M-M-M...it's real angora
Would y'all like some more-a?
Right here on the flora?
An' how 'bout you, Fauna?
Y'wanna?

MMM...sound like y'might be chokin' on somethin'
Did you say you want some more?
Well, here's some more...
MMM, sure...listen

D'you think I could interest you
In a pair of zircon-encrusted tweezers?
MMM...tweezers!
Here, lemme sterilize 'em...
Gimme your lighter...

I couldn't say where she's coming' from,
But I just met a lady named Dinah-Moe Humm
She stroll on over, say look here, bum,
I got a forty dollar bill say you can't make me cum
(Y'jes can't do it)

I whipped off her bloomers'n stiffened my thumb
An' applied rotation on her sugar plum
I poked'n stroked till my wrist got numb
An' you know I heard some,

Dinah-Moe
Dinah-Moe
Dinah-Moe
Dinah-Moe

you can this inspirational music WOW!

Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy and his daddy before
You hardly ever saw Grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year
He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine
Now the revenue man wanted Grandaddy bad
He headed up the holler with everything he had
It's before my time but I've been told
He never came back from Copperhead Road

Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside
Well him and my uncle tore that engine down
I still remember that rumblin' sound
Well the sheriff came around in the middle of the night
Heard mama cryin', knew something wasn't right
He was headed down to Knoxville with the weekly load
You could smell the whiskey burnin' down Copperhead Road

I volunteered for the Army on my birthday
They draft the white trash first,'round here anyway
I done two tours of duty in Vietnam
And I came home with a brand new plan
I take the seed from Colombia and Mexico
I plant it up the holler down Copperhead Road
Well the D.E.A.'s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I'm back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol' Charlie don't you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road

Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road
Copperhead Road

If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
And this bird you can not change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.

Bye, bye, baby its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it so badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
And this bird you can not change
Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord help me, I can't chaye-ea-ea-ea-.
Lord, I can't change.
Won't you fly... high...free... bird.. (yeah).

2pac touched me greatly growing up. I mean, he really tapped into my emotions. He helped immensely, especially when my mom passed, at the same time - Dear Mama, coincidentally was just released.

In any case, too many songs to name. However their has always been a "bar"/rhyme that reign deep within my subconscious - each and every day. These lyrics are:

So inspiring - when you're lost, and adults just can't break through. Music can, it's universal and it does not judge you. Hence, why I clinged to it. It's just a shame most people past the age of 35 - do not respect this man, and chalk him up as just another manfactured, generic rapper. In my opinion he was OUR generations Lennon.

In the Event Of My Demise
by Tupac Shakur

In the event of my Demise
when my heart can beat no more
I Hope I Die For A Principle
or A Belief that I had Lived 4
I will die Before My Time
Because I feel the shadow's Depth
so much I wanted 2 accomplish
before I reached my Death

I have come 2 grips with the possibility
and wiped the last tear from My eyes
I Loved All who were Positive
In the event of my Demise

Unconditional Love

(What y'all want?)
Unconditional Love (no doubt)
Talking bout the stuff that don't wear off
It don't fade
It'll last for all these crazy days
These crazy nights
Whether you wrong or you right
I'm a still love you
Still feel you
Still there for you
No matter what (hehe)
You will always be in my heart
With unconditional love

[Verse One:]

Come listen to my truest thoughts, my truest feelings
All my peers doing years beyond drug dealing
How many caskets can we witness
Before we see it's hard to live
This life without God, so we must ask forgiveness
Ask mama why God deserved to die
Witness the tears falling free from my eyes
Before she could reply
Though we were born without a silver spoon
My broken down TV, show cartoons in my living room (hey)
One day I hope to make it
A player in this game
Mama don't cry, long as we try
Maybe things change
Perhaps it's just a fantasy
A life where we don't need no welfare
Shit with our whole family
Maybe it's me that caused it
The fighting and the hurting
In my room crying cause I didn't want to be a burden
Watch mama open up her arms to hugging
And I ain't worried bout a damn thang, with unconditionl love

[Chorus: 2x]

In this game the lesson's in your eyes to see
Though things change, the future's still inside of me
We must remember that tomorrow comes after the dark
So you will always be in my heart, with unconditional love

[Verse Two:]

Just got the message you've been calling all week
Been out here hustling on these streets, ain't had a chance to speak
But you know, with you and me it's on G
We could never be enemies, cause you been such a good friend to me
Where would I be without my dogs
No wonder why when times get hard
Cause it ain't easy being who we are
Driven by my ambitions, desire higher positions
So I proceed to make Gs, eternally in my mission
Is to be more than just a rap musician
The elevation of today's generation
If could make 'em listen
Prison ain't what we need, no longer stuck in greed
Time to play and strategize, my family's gotta eat
When we make somethin out of nothing
No pleasure in the suffering, neighborhood would be good
If they could cut out all the busting
The liquor and the weed the cussing
Sending love out to my block
The struggle never stops (unconditional love)

[Chorus]

[Verse Three:]

I'll probably never understand ya ways
With everyday I swear I hear ya
Trying to change your ways while gettin paid at the same time
Just had a baby with the same eyes
Something inside, please let me die these are strange times
How come I never made it
Maybe it's the way the played it in my heart
I knew one day I gotta be a star
My hopes and all my wishes
So many vivid pictures, and all the currency
I'll never even get to see
This fast life soon shatter us
Cause after all the lights and screams
Nothing but my dreams matter
Hoping for better days
Maybe a peaceful night, baby don't cry
Cause everythang gonna be alright
Just lay your head on my shoulder
Don't worry bout a thang baby
Girl I'm a soldier (huh)
Never treated me bad, no matter who I was
You still came with that, unconditional love

You're comparing a guy who promoted cop killing (even shot and wounded two cops himself), and who advocated misogyny and sexual violence, to John Lennon who advocated peace his entire life. That's crazy talk.

Apparently, I know more about Tupac than you know about Lennon.

BTW, I assume you know that in the year before his death, Tupac himself was convicted of sexually assaulting a female fan, a crime for which he served 8 months in jail. Nice guy.

So Tupac was your generations Lennon? What instruments did Tupac play? None. Lennon played several instruments in addition to composing some of the best known (and best loved) melodies and lyrics in the world for decades before being gunned down.

Lennon's music and lyrics (yes, many people can actually compose music as well as write poetry), were far more diverse than Tupac's lifted beats (mostly assembled by others) and the ghetto stream of consciousness that passes for lyrics in the manufactured rap muzak world.

Tupac had some talent to be sure, but he diminished that by his lifestyle and choice of associates. People profiteering from Tupac have released more content after his death, than he released while alive.

Your generation has many more talented and better role models than Tupac. If you can draw positive inspiration from some of his lyrics, that's good. The music wasn't really his though. Put him on a pedestal if you want to but please don't compare him to Lennon.

Sadly, to me, Tupac's legacy is live like a thug, die like a thug.

Peace,

Plenty of people have come from the streets and have made something of themselves without dealing drugs, beating on women, and other such nonsense that some gangsta rappers seem to like to brag and write about in order to sell CDs (while leading other's down the same dead end path they followed).

In case you didn't know, John Lennon came from a poor neighborhood in working class Liverpool. He barely knew his father, and his mother was mostly absent. After being taken in by an Aunt, John could actually claim that he had the best adolescent surroundings amongst the Beatles - the others all lived in government subsidized housing. He and his mates managed to do fairly well even though the odds were against them.

John was no saint, he fought many demons, some drug induced, some a product of his own psyche. In the end, he is remembered mostly for his broad and remarkable range of music, the beautiful as well as the raw visceral melodies, and for lyrics that continue to touch people 25 years after his death. John Lennon's message was an undying message of love.

Maybe in another 15 years or so, great words will be said about Tupac, although for far different reasons. I'm sure he'll be remembered as an influential rapper and wannabe actor (who managed to alienate other performers such as Janet Jackson), but I hardly imagine that he will be considered in the same league as John Lennon.

I mean no disrespect to you or Tupac when I take exception to Tupac being compared to John Lennon. I am just pointing out the flawed logic.

I'm not condescending Lennon's legacy with the comparison. I believe Lennon is in fact the superior artist. The Beatles, and Lennon's post-Beatle work is the greatest music I've heard...ever. Far exceeding 2pac's catalogue. Okay? Is that what you wanted to hear? What I just said is true, and I do feel this way. But just clarifying, is this what you wanted to hear?

Now - withstanding what I have just said - do you not feel the least bit, inconsiderate - and judgmental? By attempting to conjure up some psuedo arguement to demean a man, in his own appreciation thread? His impact is clear, just read the replies! How dare you, someone obviously not from my generation - nor my background, dictate to me, who can and cannot be my "Lennon".

See what you fail to realize is - when I made the comparison - I wasn't comparing music, or artistic integrity. I was comparing the importance of these "slained" musicians to the children of their "time". How the passing of both, devastated many many lives. Sure, John Lennon's death affected more. However that's insiginificant, and SHOULD NOT detract from the feelings of whom, were grief stricten by his (2pac's) death.

Needless to say, I adamantly stand by my comments.
