Ideally, it would be starting an escort agency in the upper rooms of a sex club where you have video cameras and photographers doing content shoots, magazine shoots, cable/internet and cdrom distribution while selling the used novelties while doing phone sex. Now that would hit all markets at once

If these numbers are correct, I think it proves how much upside there still is for adult webmasters. Especially with the expansion of broadband.

The limitations of the 'Net extend beyond (down)load times. The traditional PC setup means being stuck at a desk, probably alone, rather than the many other options that are possible with videos or TV. And of course we cannot hope to approach clubs or escorts in terms of interactivity, nor re-create the social element of clubs. You could argue that in some respects we offer more than magazines, but our advantages are not absolute and our product is vastly more expensive, especially when you consider that the average magazine is (or was last time I saw the stats a few years ago) read by 5+ people.

But there is also enough going for online porn - reach and privacy being its main advantages - that you have to ask why after 10+ years (if these figures are remotely accurate), we only account for around 5% of the total porn industry.

We are our own worst enemies: there are only a handful of sponsors who aren't crippling themselves by keeping the idea alive that people with minimal skills, imagination and investment should still be able to make a better-than-average living from this business. But the boom which fostered that idea ended about 5 years ago and by continuing to sell over-priced, under-specified product, all we are doing is making sure we cannot realize more than a fraction of the market's real potential.

The numbers are close, and your upside theory is correct.

The answer is simple: none of those other market segments give their products away

Not to be rude but these figures are normally complete BS made up by random guesswork and inflated figures.

Here is an article by forbes

While Porn is a big business, alot of the figures touted in reports like this are BS
