outsourcing video editing? - GoFuckYourself.com

Anyone have experience outsouring video editing to one of these adult outsourcing companies, i.e. iwebmasters, proadultoutsourcing, xxxoutsourcing, etc? I need a whole bunch of work done, but its nothing high end at all, dont even need trailers made. Just general editing and encoding.

Post experiences here if you have them...

REDSHOE is the man. Do a search for GFY user "Redshoe"

Video editing is not just above cutting clips. It is also about identifying the key selling points of otherwise long and tedious footage and compiling it into an exciting clip. There's a lot of visual narration, story framing, and conceptualization involved. Plus, these elements must be configured from the mindset and sensibility of the target customer--US, AU, CAN, EU consumers.

I define OUTSOURCE as hiring a specialist to do your project. It doesn't necessarily mean "OVERSEAS OUTSOURCING" (which is fast becoming the standard definition of outsourcing). Even if it's not high end, any quality site is the sum of all its parts. Maybe by having a good specialist like Redshoe do your lower end stuff, it adds to your ROI by increasing the overall qualiity and consistency of your video offerings.

At it's base, video editing is no different from any other thing you do with a computer, learn the program and do the thing.

But like Maya, Photoshop, or any programming language, the skill isn't in the running of the program, but in ART. You could literally teach a monkey to cut video, but that monkey couldn't handle problems or make your video into something other than just cutup videos.

More importantly, if you have spent thousands of dollars on talent, equipment, locations, and help, why would you want to try to go the cheapest route to have someone just slap it together?

Hands up all the video editors who hve actually taken some training!

This about sums it up. If you spend a ton of bling on models, sets, and shoots, you do not want it handled by the lowest bidding turd.

While editing in any prog is a learning curve, and maticulous beyond belief, it's something you learn or don't. A lot give up easily, slap some slop together, and then call it good. Lighting makes an enormous video quality difference, but video editing takes a lot of fawkin time. Both in editing, but also in compiling it, and so on depending on length of clips.

I can appreciate the value of having good quality trailers for sites and good quality videos in the members area for members. For this particular project, we just need a bunch of dv tapes to be captured, very minimally edited (i.e. take out fuckups by cameraman, talent, etc), and encoded into a couple different formats. These tapes have already been worked into trailers and good members vids before. We just need to do it for a diffrent purpose now. So yes, it is low-end on this particular project. Thanks for your concerns though.

BigDog, yes, some editing is necessary.

Sounds like a fairly simple project for someone who has the time or wants the experience. Converting different formats is always a pain. 40 min for 5 min clips (DV AVI/Divx or xvid).

But if you have shorter one's, then should be quick turn arounds. They just need the clean editing. Patience, and time to do them.
