Was a great union job.I was in the petroleum industry.Basically a pump mechanic and worked on aviation equipment. The money was good..3 bucks an hour for pension and all the benefits. It sucks working for the man..I hated it but it was reliable and stable income..It comes a time for a man to make serious decisions in life and I hope I did the right thing..wish me luck

In a union you get vested after a certian amount of time.In my case 7 years. If you leave the union you can take out your pension and reinvest it in your own retirement RRSP.Depending on years of service the amount varies..if I stayed longer it could maybe rise another 500 bucks per monthOriginally posted by tony404Why didnt you stay another 2 yrs so you could retire with a pension? If you havent kept up with current events. This isnt the most stable industry in the world. I wish all the best and good luck.Comment

Congrats. At least you are out of the union now. Unions are organized thievery/extortion rackets. So hard as it is to believe that you can be moving to a MORE respectable career by becoming a fulltime pornographer, you actually have.Originally posted by spunkyWas a great union job.I was in the petroleum industry.Basically a pump mechanic and worked on aviation equipment. The money was good..3 bucks an hour for pension and all the benefits. It sucks working for the man..I hated it but it was reliable and stable income..It comes a time for a man to make serious decisions in life and I hope I did the right thing..wish me luckComment

Of course, your pension probably isn't adjusting towards inflation either..
eitherway, good luck!Comment

Thanks..I just run a few sites TGP/MGP and a bunch on MSN and yahoo..not really cutting it,so that's why I didn't pursue it full time.Trying with a localized mainstream site catering to executives..Originally posted by SwordFishCongrats. Well I have an option of taking out what was invested and placing it in a locked in RRSP..I still have another 20 years to work and that's where the 500 came from..The monthly payment only goes up a small fractionComment

congrats man
it feels so nice to be liberated from a 'day job'
no fucking bosses yelling at you and no being late for work
the webmaster life is stressfull but nice at the same time
Often times I wonder why
There's love and hate, theres live or die.
When sickness comes I must decide:
When feelings go, theres suicide.

damn I remeber when i quit my day job and started doing adult on the net. It was 1993 and the "insert some random fucking 90's group here /bash/slash/gogolfwithoj.com" was playing on the 8 track.
those were the days.
no one here remembers that line.Comment
