I'm fairly happy with my little Fender combo. It's a Champ DSP 30. I don't use the overdrive channel on it though, too muddy. I use my rackmout all tube preamp.

By the way your right.
My Amp is a Roland Jazz Chorus 120.

Hate digital Line 6 crap (except maybe for pc noodling), and the nu-metal Mesa Triple Recto slush sound.

Give me a two channel EL34 tube amp with Celestions, and maybe a TS9 and Fasel Cry Baby.

Thanks, man. My grandpa played country and bluegrass through it for almost 30 years...so it's well worn. It's one of my favorite possessions.

How well do the power amp tubes break up as you crank it? Does it have a nice warm overdrive? Or is it strictly a clean amp?

iwantchixx 04-03-2005 01:16 AM

These would be rad to drop in a custom tube amp

It's a '56, so it's a little old to have a real overdrive. The sound is generally clean, but if it's turned up past 7-8 (it goes to 12), and you're playing fast, it starts to do it's thing. The "Presence" knob is the main control for effects, and playing with it can get various amounts distortion at high levels.

But you can't really compare it to a Marhsall from the 60's, etc.

Who make's your tube rackmount?

the source 04-03-2005 11:27 AM

I've got 2 words for you: Dual Fuckin' Rectifier

there's a reason this is the amp that you've probably heard on every "rock" cd made for the last 10 years. Mesa Boogie knows their shit!

SongRider 04-03-2005 11:50 AM

I used a Carvin X100b halfstack and a charvel model 5 for 10+ years and wanted a change so went back to my Les Pauls and have been thru 3 marshall fullstacks, 2 more carvins, A Blue Voodoo fullstack, Line6, Fender stage series, Traynor and a few others I cant recall in the last 2 years. I FINALLY settled on a Mesa Maverick Class A 35 watt 2-12 combo Dual Rectifer and could not be more happy with an amp. It is punchy and real "alive" sounding. I bought it to resell in my store and once I heard it I was hooked!!!

I just threw a Seymour Duncan in my strat and it absolutely ROCKS through it.... So I am going to do the same with my paul. The clean is real "glassy" sounding and the dirty is PERFECT.

I cant find a single thing to complain about on this amp so far. And I am a PICKY bitch!!! :winkwink:

Mesa deffinately knows their shit. I had a Subway Rocket combo once and that little fucker just boogied! Hence the name Mesa BOOGIE... heh. Great little practive amp. I think it was 30 watts. I plugged it into a Mesa 4x12 and it was still able to shake the foundations. Gotta love all tube watts.
