The funny part is the methods used here to extract the girl are the hardest... it is MUCH better to select and extract than it is to try to paint your way in. It is almost much better to smooth by duplicating the layer, blurring the duplicate, and then masking to reveal only what you want to be sharp. You can also adjust the transparency of the blurred layer to allow for some texture to still show.

Work with layers. That is what they are there for.

I find that using the eraser brush does a nicer job for me. The extract feature cuts off shit I need and leave stuff I don't need.

But now that I learned how to turn a path into a selection I'll be using it from now on.

because it drives me nuts whne people can't cut out images properly and I thought it would be nice to help fellow gfy'ers out :)

The thing is, you can use the picker to create a path, turn it into a selection, and then ADD to the selection. it isn't "this or that"... and the selection tool does a much nicer job (especially in the hair area) that you cannot easily do witha brush.

The example picture on this thread has a part of her hair missing (near her right shoulder) that shows hair on her shoulder that doesn't attach to her head, because it got cut off. With a picker tool and a little time, you could have kept that hair in the game and made it MUCH better.
