The contest is not for the serious players, or for any player in that case.Originally posted by sweetcutiesI don't read them and prob never will... if your proggy is good, people will join and promote. They don't need an incentive to join. You really think the serious players are concerned about winning an x box or a trip somewhere
The contest is up there, only to make sure that a good announcement will be up on the first page for everyone to see it over a period of a few days.
The problem of GFY, for big programs, like PussyCash. Is the fact that about 90% of the threads are about Paris Hilton and other shit, and not about real webmasters business. And when you upload something interesting like the $3000 referral Bonus that we have during April, the post will get into 3rd page in about 2 hours for first post to last, and only 5% of GFY webmasters will get a chance to see it.
So we are using the contests to make sure it is up there for everyone to see. If you will check other boards, that mainly talk business and not bullshit, you will not find 1 contest!

Well thats when you buy a banner. This way if you have an announcement you email Eric and he will make your thread a sticky thread so it stays right on top. And if you already have a banner then duh....
The contest threads hurt the board just as if not more then the other shit.Comment

Well I really don't care about them if you think about it for some people it's a great way of getting a little $$ for the day. I won $50 one day but then I got disqualified cuz I made a few post in a row, oh well but I'm not going to say it wouldn't have been bad to have won $50.

Well, that's a good point, but Eric will stick it for only 2 hours, and it will take much more then that to get all of GFY webmasters to see our announcementOriginally posted by HeadlessWell thats when you buy a banner. Well I will tell you one thing... Coming from someone who has been on this board since 2001... I do not even read your announcements. When I see a new pussycash thread I skip right over it.
That is how most of these contest threads are starting to be viewed. To me they look like garbled up bullshit. When the thread title is long and there is over 12 pages of shit I dont even read the thread title.
IMO you are hurting the board... How many announcements must one make?Comment

i think it would be wise if GFY impose much stricter rules on such posts, reaching 6,000 post to win a thread is very tiring to see once in a while. im not saying the contest is bad but id say it would be more enjoyable to join such thread if they enfore much realistic goals.Originally posted by LeeNogaI hate them, who would want to start at the 29th page? I am always glad when they rotate off but then again new ones pop up.

Indeed... I skip them too. I don't even check. Like I said in my other thread, they're misleading anyway. The thread title says "Win $10,000 in this thread" when infact you can win what.. $150 and an Ipod?Originally posted by HeadlessWell I will tell you one thing... Truth is, it was a great idea at first... someone was really very clever. But like any good thing... it can be over used and abused and ruined.
It's too much now. There's 7 or 8 contest threads on the front page at any one time. And the fact is that you're no longer advertising to anyone who'll promote you, you're advertising to bottom feeders who have 18 hours a day to sit and post in that thread.Comment

I agree 100000%
Funny thing though... You can see more clearly now who the bottom feeders are... ;)Comment

If you skip them too! how do you know that in the "win $10,000 in this thread" you can win $150 and an Ipod
And it is $1250 and an Ipod and not $150 and an Ipod!

But once GFY is allowing it, I can't just sit on the bench and see other programs, getting their word out there and I need to bump important threads like this one:
http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=449605
And I really think this one is a good example, I think that everyone in this board should get the chance to see a thread like this without the need to run a contest!

No, I agree... in a perfect GFY world, people would read the business threads and not the useless ones... it's a great way to draw attention and like I said, back in the day, it was very smart.
But now it's just way to abused to be worthwhile to the rest of us.Comment

What makes that thread so important to the rest of us? Im sorry to say, it isnt.
You claim that important threads get burried with useless shit. Well contest threads are adding to the problem, not fixing it.Comment

100% correct, and I think that GFY should get a new forum for webmasters that are really interested in the adult industry and not in Paris Hilton Video. So that we will have again, a forum about really interesting stuff and not the regular bullshit.Originally posted by NichePay - StuartDNo, I agree... in a perfect GFY world, people would read the business threads and not the useless ones... it's a great way to draw attention and like I said, back in the day, it was very smart.

If we would have such a forum I'm sure that a thread like the $3000 Bonus for referral would stay up for more then an hour

Don't you find it important to know, when an affiliate program is offering a 50% bonus for your traffic?Originally posted by HeadlessWhat makes that thread so important to the rest of us? Im sorry to say, it isnt.

Don't you find it important to know, when an affiliate program is offering $100 per signup?
Don't you find it important to know, that by referring a webmaster to an affiliate program you will get $3000?
And I can keep on going. If the answer to all these Q, is no! then you are not the webmaster that I'm trying to make sure will get to see it!!!!!

Why not pay a bit extra and get your announcement stickied for longer?Originally posted by traffic addictWell, that's a good point, but Eric will stick it for only 2 hours, and it will take much more then that to get all of GFY webmasters to see our announcement
I wouldn't be surprised if, in future, programs have to pay for a skinning before running a "major contest promotion". Would not surprise me at all.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!

Instead of cluttering the board with bullshit pay to have your thread sticky for longer
What do you think was his answer?Comment

Here's another idea.... why not spread your $10k around by choosing a few dozen regular posters (who aren't idiots or postwhores) and buy their sigs for a month? If you also bought a top banner spot then every one of those sigs could be a full sized banner too.
You'd make a lot of legit webmasters happy, and I bet you'd get a lot more signing up to your program.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!

We are doing that as well, but when you have 5 things to say in a 2 weeks period, you can't really ask 50 webmasters to change their sig every other dayOriginally posted by CDSmithHere's another idea.... why not spread your $10k around by choosing a few dozen regular posters (who aren't idiots or postwhores) and buy their sigs for a month?
