Dude, do not waste your time with those, or any books.

Poker books are stupid, they all say the same exact thing and will totally not help you when it comes to playing a real game.

Playing cards is all about feel, if you feel your opponent is weak, if you feel your hand is the best, if you feel you've been drawn out on,... etc.

The better your instincts are, the better card player you are =) Some people can feel what kinds of cards are potentially out of the deck by who folded and who limped/called... (i.e. lots of weak aces called...)

Every poker hand is unique to itself because of the people playing it, you've gotta be able to learn what kind of players (weak/tight/agressive/loose/maniacs) are at your table, how your position favors you (or hurts you) and all those other factors.

Books shed "light" on the subjects, but they offer no real hardcore help (because why would they).

Lastly, if you're playing mid-limit poker(2/4 to 10/20)... most of the information in the book is useless because you'll always have some idiot calling you with 7/3 offsuit and hitting two pair vs. your aces.

No I'm not joking. I've got most of the books people "reccomend" you get.

They all suck. I also play poker both brick and mortar in AC/CT and online ... and i've logged many, many hours.

read books by slansky

poker is all about the #'s. there are 2 types of players. people who know how to play and monkeys.

a monkey is the guy who plays because he is "feeling the cards" he will go broke in the long run. he may catch a few hands and win and get lucky, but in the long run he is broke.

if you play position and the strength of your hand over the long run you will win. its all statistical probablity that has been run thru super computers.

Here are some on my collection:

Super System - Dolyle Brunson. Must read. The concepts are somewhat obsolete but it will help you understands the basics of the game.

Tournament Poker for Advanced Players - David Sklansky If you play tourneys, this one is a must read also. Lots of valuable advice about how to play in each stage of the tournament and The Gap concept.

The Theory of Poker - David Sklansky This one is dense, but is by far the most useful book I have ever found. Not a book to read, but to study.

Hold'em Poker - Gary Carson This one is a good overall beginner's guide. It covers topics like table selection, counting outs, drwas, strating hand value, etc..
