How do I rip DVDs?

Yesterday I bought a new hard drive so I can store all of my DVDs for computer viewing. Next step: ripping the DVDs to computer format. I think I want divx format, from what I've been hearing.

How do I do this? I'm not even interested in copying them, I just want all of my DVDs accessible on my computer.

Your going to need some software.

I do not remember the thread off the top of my head on this from a few weeks back, but someone posted the software prog for ripping from DVD (I do it forward burning to DVD, so I am not sure on the reverse part).

Then after you do the DVD rip, you will need a prog to convert to DivX format. I use Premiere, but I am sure other's can make some recommendations.

I've been doing this lately, I use dvdbackup to rip them to an NFS mounted working directory and from there use mencoder to do a 2 pass encode to MPEG4. Then rip subtitles with transcode tools & OCR them with gocr.

One thing to watch out for is how your DVD drive handles dual layer disks. I was ripping with an older NEC at first, then noticed some movies skipping during the layer transistion.

its as easy as 123...

here is what you do...

go here and download dvd decryptor

http://www.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download

its freeware. YAYAYAYA.

it will rip the files to your hard drive... now all you do is use Nero burning ROM or any other burning software that can burn cds and add the ripped files to the CD...

now, if the files are too big for 1 CD you will need to condense them to two cds so goto http://www.mrbass.org/dvdfab/

and download DVDFAB (free) and you can split that bitch up.

DONE DEAL.

DVD encryptor will not open all dvds - Super DVD Copy will though. I think it's $60, but it opens all DVDs.

I use DVD fab to do this it will save to harddrive or copy to disk plus it gives you range of options such as strip subtitles and all the other menu crap and just save the actual film

for idiots like me it has an easy use wizard

Get DVD Decrypter to rip the full video, then use DVD Shrink to reencode to fit on the DVD5 disks. Haven't made one coaster yet.

Videocharge.com

I believe this program was made by a porn biz programmer.

Anyways, it rips and encodes in one step. It encodes to WM9 so you get the smallest file size with the best quality.
