Search Engine Wars
Hrmph, I was tailing my log files looking for things to improve, and I came across a yahoo search engine hit that just came in, so I go see where i was positioned for that keyword, and for the life of me, I could not see my site in their listings and this hit came in only seconds ago... I even used the exact referring URL in the logs and no luck finding...
At first I was like, hrmph, I wonder if Google steals Yahoo traffic since like, a lot of people have adwords on their pages these days, and if the searcher didnt see what he liked, he might be clicking on a google link next. Now that Google has this new technology, a second thing just came to my mind...Is yahoo now tossing out my pages in their index because I have google adwords on my page? This is a very interesting concept in my eyes. If google is redirecting traffic in their favor, would'nt you drop all those that are promoting it? Think about it with this new search engine thing they announced, forgive my ignorance on lack of name of the program, but basically its an ad their will place in your adwords listing to take them to a page to help them find what the person is actually looking for, end result, you make more money as you get money for clicks, but GOOGLE gets recognition and perhaps can persuade that user into their search engine from this point forward.... Do you think this will affect anything?, Do we care if yahoo or other engines are dropping our page? Or will we adapt to 5 sites per one like you do language pages? Is this the beginning of Search Engine Wars? All I know is I been seeing a trend of search engine traffic reduction, and starting to pinpoint where its originating from I believe. |

Its more than likely a geo-targetted hit. Try using a proxy that is near the area of that hit and look at the results from this. I had this problem with Yahoo before where I would get tons of his but there were none of my listings in the SERP's. Once I got a few proxies I was able to see the results.
