What's wrong with my PC's internal clock
In the last week or so it has become very slow. It's 30 minutes behind right now. What the hell could cause that..??? It's run fine for the last year.

COME ON !!!! Is there really a battery in there...??
Why.. the fucking thing is plugged into the wall. I have a 4 year old PC that still keeps time fine but this 1 year old has got a dead battery. Actually, when I first made this post I reset the clock and now it's already 3 minutes behind so I guess I better check it out. I don't make it a habit to open up my PC tho... In fact, a few months ago I added some ram by myself and was so proud I pulled it off.... and the only thing easier would probably be changing a battery ![]() Is it just a standard watch type battery or something else..?? What am I looking for when I get in there ..??? BTW - I feel like a spacedog ... I mean idiot ![]() |

It runs on a standard car battery. Pick one up at Sears. Be sure to tell them it is for your computer so they know which one you need. Get the Die Hard this time.

The Truth..... you should probaly set it up to get the correct time from a public server on the net. They do provide services which will sync your computers time automatically you know

If it is your internal battery make sure you copy all your bios settings before you remove it because the same clock battery is used for your cmos ram.
Having said that one year is a VERY short life span for that type of battery, it should last at least 3 years. You should also be aware that it may reset your bios password to default so make sure you know it beffore you remove it. (it did on old boards anyay) ------------------ All your hits belong to me. |

One other thing. you will get a much longer battery life if you stick a strong magnet to the heatsink of your processor.

Hey Truth,
I was experiencing the same problem. I noticed it began after downloading new anti-virus software from Norton. Well after doing some searching on the net I learned that anti-virus software can do this to your computer. For some reason while it's running in the background it slows your clock down. It doesn't necessarily happen on everyone's computer but it does happen. Just thought I'd point this out to you. The suggestions was to first change the battery and if you continued to experience any problem ctrl-alt-delete and shut down any progs running in the background and see what happens after that. Good luck, eros |

This is also a bug with WinXP I think. MS should have a fix out soon.
