Exactly.

When I expect more and don't get it then it gets marked down in my weak flick list because I was let down.

Go rent/buy Return of the Titans if you want a great football movie.

I agree that it wasn't the best movie i've ever seen but it's totally sentimental to me so I had to buy and watch it. One of the characters "Don Billingsley" is a very good friend of mine. We went to school together for many many years in the small town I grew up in until he went to live with his dad in Texas. It was pretty emotional for me because I had no idea he went into such a shitty relationship environment with his dad. His mom is a great lady and he had a nice home. Incidentally, he went on to play at East Central University until he completely burned out when his best friend overdosed and died. After that point he cleaned himself up and got his life on track. I talked to him right after the book came out and he minimized his role in it so I never bothered buying it. I was pretty surprised to find out that he was one of the main characters in it though. They pretty much nailed his cockiness. He was always the one to have all the chicks swarming and swooning at his knees.

I didn't like it too much and it certainly didn't live up to the hype surrounding it. The ending was stale and Billy Bob's acting was pedestrian.

Remember the Titans?

If so, that's an awesome movie.

More about race than football though.

How many books..documentaries..and movies have been made about Oklahoma football? ;)
There's a reason they do it about Texas football..and specifically games played in West Texas coming out of the Odess Permia, Midland Odessa area.

West TX football is almost a cut-throat style of play. VERY effective at winning State titles.

I played Texas 2A ball.

loved it.. of course.. I went to Abilene Cooper.. was cool to see our old shitty stadium in the movie... I need to look back as I do not recall any three way tie that year.. i was actually in highschool during the time this all took place.. and permian was always a powerhouse.. not too many highschool stadiums that were as nice or nicer than most colleges...
