utah signs anti net porn bill

http://news.com.com/Utah+governor+si...9067&subj=news

Utah's governor signed a bill on Monday that would require Internet providers to block Web sites deemed pornographic and could also target e-mail providers and search engines.

The controversial legislation will create an official list of Web sites with publicly available material deemed "harmful to minors." Internet providers in Utah must provide their customers with a way to disable access to sites on the list or face felony charges.

That would definitely be unconstitutional. The supreme court will bitch slap that bill right down the Mormon's throats.

This law will be bitch slapped so fast by the supreme court.. that gov won't know what hit him.

"The controversial legislation will create an official list of Web sites with publicly available material deemed "harmful to minors." Internet providers in Utah must provide their customers with a way to disable access to sites on the list or face felony charges"

There is no possible way anyone could keep an updated list of all the adult websites on the internet. Just goes to show you what kind of morons live in Utah. LoL we should just fence that state off so they can't infect the rest of the country with their stupidity.

Sounds from the quote above as if users will have a choice. I'm not sure about anyone else but I'm happy to lose people who don't want porn and kid visitors from my sites.

Of course it could be argued that this is the first step on a scary ladder which'll result in enforced censorship although there's no evidence of that as yet.

Worth adding that as above it'll also be interesting to see how this 'list' is kept up to date and accurate. But then politicians rarely worry about the real life implications of many laws they pass.
