NY Lotto Mistake : Hundreds of people thought they won 100k

MajoR Fuckup By Somone at the NY Lotto office!.. 1 of the winning numbers for the Scratch off game was entered and published as a 13 instead of a 14...hence theres a couple hundred people at lotto headquaters standing in line right now waiting to collect there 100k that they will never see because The Lotto officials already said there not paying!. A few of the people on line told storeis of partying up this weekend, booking cruises and trips on credit cards, telling off boss and quitting jobs..

..Doors open at 9am...Police have arrived and are prepared for the worst.

Talk about being OWNED!

i wouldn't think so, considering it was a typo in the paper and not the actual #'s

that would be like the new york post saying we are invading iran instead of iraq...would that mean we would have to invade iran too because someone hit the wrong letter?

I think it was the lotto people that gave the wrong number out ...not the papers mistake...the news story should hit online soon and we will find out some more of the specifics...but...man..i know if i thought i won a 100k on friday afternoon..but coulndt pick it up till monday am...i would have partied like a rock star all weekend with what i had in the bank...some peopleare talking lawsuit already

I think they should pay it.
If you have a REAL winning ticket, and you accidently rip the ticket, it's invalid and they dont pay! Therefore, they should have to pay for THEIR fuckup for once.
After all the deal is you match the numbers posted in the paper, right? And the numbers were posted, right? Seems they owe people some cash, lol.

Congrats to all of the winners!

You all saying they have to pay.. I am shocked.. in the US, the country of disclaimers all over the place, even on stupid coffee cups saying "this is hot coffee" you are telling me there is no disclaimer on every listing of lotto numbers saying that if these numbers are not actual ones actually drawn then you have no right to money? You gotta be kidding, the whole world does that but not the US?

Just checked nylottery.org, the page on the bottom says this:

The information contained on these pages is believed to be accurate. In the event of a discrepancy between the information displayed on this Web site concerning winning numbers and payouts and the information contained in the
official and certified files maintained by the New York Lottery's Drawing Unit, those maintained by the Drawing Unit shall prevail.

I'm sure any other place the numbers are printed says the same thing.

Isn't this why almost every broadcast on lottery numbers always says, here, unofficially are tonights winning lottery numbers. I think the unofficially disclaims most liability from broadcasters.

Quit your job after winning 100k? Hmm, maybe if you are 62 years old and going to retire soon but 100k isn't exactly going to set you up for life ...

I remember a few years back they drew the numbers for a big lottery and it turned out the numbers were some sort of wierd common number combination of babe ruth's stats or something , and it turned out hundreds of people won. So you would think if you matched all the numbers you would win something big , but the $5 mill payout divided by that many people turned out to only be a few thousand after taxes
