What program do you cut your movies with?

Well, title says it all. Have some scenes encoded in divx and mpeg for our members area. Now we need to cut them up in smaller files. What program do you guys and girls use if you for example want to cut a 15 min movie into 5 3 minute scenes without encoding them all again?

Thanks for your replies!

this is the program you need.

It will split any full length video into any amount of equal size parts in just a few moments. It's bad ass fast and simple as fuck to use.

Tried this, it works well with raw files, but when encoded in mpeg or avi the splitted files looks horrible... Might be some settings error, but I can't find any settings to change...

That's odd. I've split over 200 hours of my full length wmvs with this tool without a hitch with no degredation. It's not even re encoding them, it just splits them so there is no loss.

maybe it was a different program you're thinking of, you sure it was this one?

Yep, I'm sure it's that one. Thought it was strange too since it's working on raw files... Maybe I should try re-installing the thing.

I would try re installing because quite honestly I couldn't live without this program. Saves so much time.

and you are right, there are no settings. Just check whether you want to split into however many equal parts and select how many parts. and bam. It takes about 15 seconds to do a 30 minute wmv (512 kbs) into 10 equal parts

There are some more threads here confirming as well if you want to search.

It seems more and more that it's something wrong with our video settings... It gets kind of a blue filter over the video when playing it. Noticed this first when trying to encode into wmv and thought it was the encoder that was broken, but now this filter shows up on other files aswell. Hate this vide-stuff... argh.

Never forget, with any splitter that does not reencode video files, there will always be data-loss. Just cutting the files appart works for some but not all video files. Exact equal lengths also causes problems with many formats that use key frames, you will lose quite a few seconds of data inbetween the single clips or just totally destroy your clips.

Apps like videosplitter might work many times, but it might also suddenly destroy your video files.. Reencoding takes time, but is always the most secure way to make flawless video file splits.

Cutting vids

I use Pinnacle Studio 9 Deluxe to edit my vids for the web..

I download the whole video on to my pc and then just cut it as I go along. My vids are from 20 - 30 mins and it takes no time at all and there is no loss of quality, as I make the end product vcd quality and though surfers email me to say they take ages to download... They love the quality, and it's worth the wait. As I Add intro's, outro's and transitions these also make for a better end product.

Hi John Thanks for the bump. Hope you'll be in Miami this august again!

Well, it seems like something is wrong with our videosettings. Looked at clips split with boilsofts program again and now they work just fine. The issue apparently has something to do with windows media player cause all wmv files looks like crap with that blue filter mentioned above. Will have to dig deeper I guesss...

Thanks everyone who sugested programs, you've been very helpful

Boilsoft Splitter splits wmv's and mpegs fine for me. The only time it tends to screw up is on rare occasions when I make more than 100 splits from one file or split into really small files.

If you like the Boilersoft but it gives you some issues then check www.aone-video.com or www.zealotsoft.net, they're essentially the samething.
