I want to hook up two monitors to my PC

I want to hook up two monitors to my PC. I know I need a special video card with two connections one for each monitor right? Or is there a less expensive adaptor? Man those video cards are expensive.

Just get a cheap video card to run the second one if you don't plan on playing any crazy graphics intense games.

No games...

Will the PC read it as one monitor so that I can move my cursor from screen to screen and have multiple windows open yes?

Either 2 cards or one card with two connectors. Even a card with a DVI output and a normal connector would 99% of the time work as two monitors. And yes, windows will make the monitors one.

Yeah, you just have to go into the control panel and configure a couple things.

Just two plugins for the screens, then a few clicks and it's set up.

more space to work. you can put your primary stuff (browser, photoshop, etc) in one window and secondary stuff in the second window (icq, stats, winamp)

i was unaware that you could simply plug in a second graphics card... i've got a ton lying around.

Can I simply search for "Dual head video card" on Pricewatch?

This should help you:

http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/guide/

Personally I use a GeForce FX5600 with a DVI and VGA output and use a DVI-to-VGA convertor for the 2nd monitor.

Just pick up a ti4200 off ebay. GREAT dual head card. Enough firepower for intensive photoshop work and even games on the primary monitor.. I have mine set up for two independant desktops. The primary has teh start, task tray etc and the second stores all my desktop icons and I use it for folders, chat, email and winamp.

I use the primary for web browsing and photoshop and games as it has more video memory and processing power.
