No it is not the end of web based. How many people want to explain to their wife what the box is, Or to the frineds when they show up???

I think that most porn is viewed by people alone, and only a small % is done with another person.

Yes, but with websites you get a few small clips, with this dvd quality porn direct to your tv.

£180 is not a bad price (about £90). I could see this doing bit time. The only thought is, would the boxes work outside the usa. Say the UK, as in power problems.

I this is so, then DVD porn would not sell. And as we know its sells big time.

This I see gives you the quality of dvd porn and ease of web porn.

I think its the privacy of a personal computer that provide the allure to most porn viewers. Quick clip here, fast pic there, etc.

anyone can output from a cheap laptop to their tv and one can bundle the subscription to their site with instructions etc. and a lot of competition could spring up overnight - if the product passes the giggle test.

it will be interesting to see if people adopt this new twist on high def web content.

the quality of online porn continues to get better. So in this case that is not a good argument, DVD quality porn can already be found at deluxepass, videoz, etc. Those cost like $29.99 a month but you don't have to pay $180 for basically a 'porn' machine.

As internet2 and better quality broadband connections get better i think there will be a seamless integration between your internet connection + tv.

In the UK (and throughout most of the western world I would imagine) porn is readily available on cable / satellite TV after the evening watershed.

There is countless softer type porn channels here and for the hardcore stuff, it is not difficult to find European viewing cards etc.

Porn on the TV has been available for years and the online porn business continues to grow as we all know.

Nothing to worry about.

Obstacles are very much present, but if you think outside the box and are willing to take a risk, then the rewards will be that much sweeter!

BTW, we ran some analysis on Dvdsforabuck's user base, you'd be surprised to know the % of couples who watch porn together + the amount they spend per month

good marketing = people talk about things ain't worth talking about? Or how about good marketing = people who say they shouldn't talk about things that shouldn't be talked about because they're too small to even talk about so how is it that it's even being talked about?

The box seems redundent ... why should someone pay $180 for another box when their computer can perform most of the same functions, especially since the feeds themselves are already internet based.

Even if the box is the best thing since sliced bread, one of the biggest stumbling blocks is that people want to keep their porn surfing on the downlow - most folks certainly don't want a porn box sitting on top of their TV.

With all that said, it's probably a nice niche product to push ... but certainly no threat to the on-line adult industry - in my view, the biggest threats are more regulation and consolidation, such as cable companies offering hardcore XXX adult, including gay content, on-demand.

Ron

Stop thinking like a free surfer, thats a steal. A lot will sign up for it and not even think about the price.

DVD = $25 for 2 hours.
XTV = $45 for a month, breaking the $180 up over 12 months.

Remember we are selling to the guys with money, the guys without are free surfers who leech the system.

I'm not worried, the more pron sold means the more porn needed.

10 years ago the porn magazine and video industry laughed at the Adult Net, I know I was one of those laughing , now they have joined in and made it harder for some of those already here.

It's amazing how in a fresh, young, go ahead industry there are so many backward thinking people. This is a new delivery method for porn which will make a slice of the porn consuming market sit up and take notice.

Don't think like King Canute, he's the one who thought he could turn back the tide. Remember all the content providers telling me 3 years ago that my style of porn would never take off the Net?

I think you are misunderstanding my point here. I mentioned the price because surely that will be a major selling point for some of these buyers. Relative to what is CURRENTLY available online, ala www.deluxepass.com, www.videoz.com, etc it isn't such a good deal. Like I said before, the quality of online streaming/downloadable is just going to get better. Theoritically you could download all the 1000+ DVDS from deluxepass and burn them to dvds for your $29.99/month. I mean, if you are really into porn that much

I'm not worried about "internet porn", but I do think that through the TV is the way we will be viewing at the very least 'internet" porn, and mainstream vod, but most likely your average basic surfing too. check email... maybe a check the score of a game or two. Before I got into this business I would have ABSOLUTELY paid $30/month for non stop porn. Could have probably gotten at least 2 of my ex girlfriends to help pay for it. I dunno, I kinda like the idea of these boxes. I'm going to be looking into offering content to them this year (I think there's 3 of these companies now). It's not like time warner is wanting to hear from me, so I say more power to 'em... but NO I'm not worried.... I just like to go with the flow.

That brings up a good point. What do you think the ratio of porn subscribers that hide the porn to the ones that don't is. It is typically not socially acceptable to view porn so I'm guessing alot of people hide the fact they subscribe to it. My guess is it's also the reason so many people view ie redirects so badly...kinda hard to hide when your homepage goes straight to a porn site even if you LOVE the site it brings you to.

will it take over Internet porn? no
but it will be a nice little niche market. too many of you think like webmaster instead of surfers....kind of ironic considering the ratio of webmasters to surfers here ;-)

Remember, there are a lot of people out there tired of being fucked with, having their credit cards jacked, email spammed and just burned way too much to trust another paysite ever again. With this, they know exactly what they are getting. Think of how many people are still on dialup and also consider how many are just sick and tired of virii, trojans, adware, spyware, cocksuckerware, etc.

I know a couple amongst my friends who will never ever pay for porn again due to being fucked with so much and a couple have already ordered their XTVs

I agree, it'll be a nice niche market for those who've had it with the paysites already and those that are seriously into porn. Jacking ccs is what the big guys do best so I doubt it will affect the internet market much at all.

I think this will really take off if they add a channel for stock quotes or sports betting lines.

Gives people a non-porn excuse to have a box.
